I know self-winding watches use a clockwork mechanism, but surely we have the technology to convert that kinetic energy to low-power electrical power these days that can at least extend the charge of a re-chargeable battery.

I'd be more concerned about the batteries corroding or otherwise deteriorating somehow after 3 years of constant use.

Don't forget, you need a trust fund or significant cash flow from your parents to support you while you're there complaining about not having a job, not looking for a job.

I have a propensity to do this to my old iPod when it won't hold a connection. I theorize that the connectors on the docking port are slightly corroded (it's old, and has been left in my car in winter and summer a lot...), and the humidity from my breathing causes a slight condensation that helps complete the

As a skydiver, I must say that this is one of the most idiotic things anyone could possibly do. Great way to end up as a splat on the tarmac, and severely endanger others while doing it. If the pilot took them up with the knowledge that this was going on, he should lose his license, and the jump master and DZ should

Honestly, this is why I'll never own a blackberry. Having almost all of my phone's functions channeled through a single server that apparently has problems staying up just doesn't sit right with me. Just adds another point of failure, and when something can go wrong...

And I see that they have already changed the pictures on the website.

Then why comment?

I was a chrome devotee up until very recently, and I still use it on occasion, but the latest release of Firefox is slowly pulling me back.

AGHHHHHHH, IT BURNS!

I'm fairly certain yelling out "Palm Bay Police!" is not enough to get you busted for impersonating an officer. Generally, that's limited only to wearing a uniform or showing a badge under the pretense of executing the duties or privileges of a law enforcement official.

I think their history of ad campaigns that equate us being carnivores to mass murderers and who feel like a human being eaten by a shark is simply justice being served because, you know, humans eat meat sometimes is proof enough of that generalization. And anyone who gives money to this organization or is a member

This is reminiscent of the ad campaign they started a few years ago in which they compared chicken farming to the Holocaust. They went around plastering billboards and releasing materials showing people dying in concentration camps next to chickens in pens. All it did was make me think, "These bastards really do

A number of railroads use jet engines mounted on sleds for snow and ice removal from tracks. I find that much cooler than NASCAR, which for some reason I completely despise.

Yeah... my father recently retired from his position as a game warden in Tennessee. It was the responsibility of his agency to enforce laws on all the public waterways in the state, and every major warm-weather holiday he would come home with a new batch of stories of some drunken idiot on a jet ski or wave runner

Agh! How did I miss this? There's tons of terribly rotting infrastructure in Philadelphia I have gotten great shots of in the past, and could have easily captured more examples. Bummer. Good stuff here though! Congrats to the winners.

I find it funny how most of the world forgets that an inordinate amount of weapons systems originate in Scandinavia. Even the US Military is equipped with Scandinavian weaponry...from various Bofors cannon systems to the AT-4 anti-tank missile.

Check out Skeptoid, one of my favorite podcasts. The author did an excellent story on spontaneous human combustion a few months ago. Audio and text here: [skeptoid.com]
