I know self-winding watches use a clockwork mechanism, but surely we have the technology to convert that kinetic energy to low-power electrical power these days that can at least extend the charge of a re-chargeable battery.

I find it funny how most of the world forgets that an inordinate amount of weapons systems originate in Scandinavia. Even the US Military is equipped with Scandinavian weaponry...from various Bofors cannon systems to the AT-4 anti-tank missile.
