I require clarification, as people seem to be making a lot of assumptions.
@Better Days: Yes, but if people could get that at home through their internet connection, it would diminish the value of NRA meetings at strip clubs. Why cheapen something that beautiful?
Different people are offended by different things. Fortunately, the internet has all those things. Some companies may delete images of nudity because it offends a portion of their targeted demographic. That's their call. It's hardly "Prudish Americans" ruining it. I like to read my news without a giant ad banner…
@Waffles And Syrup: I have several, but I would use these as gifts for family members. I assume if this is moddable, then it would become fairly standard hardware for XBMC users as a cheap HTPC, much the way the original xbox was. That means more support and maybe even some optimization in the code at some point (if…
@blackcat12: Google hardly possesses the world's information. For every bit they have, there are a billion more they don't. But they do have a lot. Now consider the effort that would go into making sense of all of it. I'd hardly consider the contents of blogs, people's e-mail, and Facebook accounts to be a true…
Anyone know yet if users will have direct control of the system. I'd buy one if I could dump Boxee for a custom xbmc install. Are hardware upgrades made easily accessible to the user, or do they have things locked, encrypted and riveted shut? I'd only want one if I could change any and every aspect of it's design on…
@jgoette: Hops loves light, so whatever side gets the longest exposure will be the best. Make a note of any trees or neighboring houses that may shade the area and try to work around them.
@purimcarnival: Assuming you're using the Dharma beta or an SVN after March 2010, the setting is in there. If you're using the stable "Camelot" build, you may not have the setting.
@gamartin11: Soil pH is worth monitoring, but almost any plant debris will lower it. It can build up over time, but a single pound of lime will fix about 1000²ft area that's been mulched for 3-4 years between treatments.
@casperiv: I do this with hops, and I can tell you, moisture is not a problem. In fact, it reduces the moisture significantly, drawing it out of the soil and into the plant.
@Magus: If you need HD video, plan on about $400 (including a case and power supply, otherwise around $250).
@purimcarnival: I've been running the nightlies for months, and never once had a freeze.
@stephen.j.cotton: Thanks for the heads up. I usually export to files and keep a backup of my settings separate, so I've never had that issue. If you haven't already, drop the devs a bug report on the tracker, that's the kind of stuff they like to know about.
@markurbancic: I'm not sure, boxee was based off a much earlier version of xbmc and the code was branched. I don't know how much they've done to reintegrate the features of the main XBMC branch since release. There's a lot of redundancy between what Boxee's been doing and what the XBMC dev team are working on, but…
@rolltimer: Yes, I know. It was just an example. But the same process can be used to do other things as well.
@vinylrake: Ah, I see. I thought you were implying that the technology behind instant search was further compromising security, but it seems you're more upset that to use it, users must put themselves in a traditionally less secure place by logging in while searching. It's not that the technology is making things…
I can see a lot of potential for this. It essentially adds voice control to anything controlled by a computer with an internet connection. Forward a linked e-mail account to a monitoring event server... you see where this is going. The only issue is the lag time. It would be terrible for remote control functions…
@vinylrake: I agree with what you're saying, but I still don't see how instant search changes anything.
@vinylrake: I understand your point. However, many users share an IP. My company has 200 users who would appear identical beyond the router, so if they were to use search histories and user preferences based on IP, the results would be less accurate. From their perspective, a login makes more sense to accomplish the…
