As one who has 3 xboxes in my house modded with XBMC, I'm sorry to see official support discontinued. Still it's been well over a year since any official changes were made to the code specifically for xbox support. It's about time they began focusing on newer hardware without being constrained by legacy hardware

On the issue of preparedness, a lot of you (I deduce from the comments I'm seeing) would appreciate this. Check out the survival podcast.

@Eric Schauberger: Buy a queen and a cage for her. Put her in the hive. Other bees will move in, and once they have her scent, they won't kill her, they'll just move in and set up a new colony. Make sure you get a queen that's indigenous to your region. You can buy starter sets for under $50 that include some

@Nikhil Gupta: Then you have a problem with your wifi, or your bees. I keep bees and they have no problems near my wifi hotspots which cover literally the entire property my bees are on. There's no unusual behavior. They do freak out under high voltage lines, but radio frequencies have no discernible effect on

@collectiveego: You should do your research, that's a myth that was disproven almost 4 years ago. The culprit is a viral infection that compromises their immunity.

@jupiterthunder: I was just thinking that. The fact that they are opening the platform means it's likely to be deployed as a content back-end for media centers like XBMC and Boxxe, as long as there aren't proprietary hardware requirements or obscure licensing terms, but there seldom is with Google.

Vote: Bit torrent

@djnrempel: In 99% of cases they are fine to use. They are not viruses, but work through virus-like methods to patch system protected files. As they are designed to circumvent certain protections in order to get the job done, it appears as a virus to any good anti-virus. It's not that the AV company is

I never realized there was a name for this cooking style, but I've used it accidentally for years. When ever I make beer, the wort needs to cool. I don't own a wort chiller, so this can take 4-5 hours for a 20 Gallon batch before you can pitch the yeast. So I double bag a corned beef brisket and toss it into my

@farcedude: You're forgetting those who grind their own meat. I love Steak tartare, which is essentially raw ground beef. As long as your equipment is sterile, you can shave off the outermost ¼" of the meat, cube it and put it through a grinder with no contamination. I would never use store bought ground beef for

@jeffk: It all depends on it being properly constructed and maintained, but a well constructed hanging planter shouldn't ever drip.

@sega8800: Three years ago, I would've agreed with you. Today however, root access is meaningless. If a hacker were to target you, their motives for being there have changed. It's no longer about loading spyware and site redirects, and it's not for prestige where they want to make it evident they were there by

This argument is all hypothetical. Here are the facts:

This is a great article, but I think it missed it's audience. Every response seems to be "This works better", plug favorite tool, share stories of past upgrades etc. I think most of us have been through this a few hundred times. Still, it's nice to have this on LH, I can think of a few people who will benefit from

@monsterblues: I like the nVidia PureVideo options, but even when I get it to "work" in WMP, there's no visible difference in the video. Using MPC, I notice a huge difference. Using Klite you'll likely have ffdshow (an external decoder), which works fine, but it's a bit dated and runs with high overhead.

The major fall back is that it's a pain to get filters working on the video. Sometimes the best quality video available for download comes off an old VCD rip from a torrent site or worse, a streaming media site rip. Being able to blur/sharpen, define edges, anti-alias etc goes a long way towards making the video

@Johann Schmidt: A valid question, but you needed to give them an e-mail address already to sign up to post that question, so it's kind of a moot point now.

I want to play as the dog.

Living in NY, I wouldn't be surprised if the chamber of commerce was throwing taxpayer money to game studios just to be featured. They've done stranger things.
