My immediate reaction is that this is really good casting. Exciting stuff.

No you should be OUTRAGED!!!!

Because people are allowed to disagree on things and if you want to hire only people who have never said or done anything objectionable, you’re shit out of luck because Mr. Rogers is dead.

Yeah, this is good news and nobody cares about your hate list.

I’m curious to know the hierarchy of your outrage towards comedians who make controversial statements?

How is it that he looks even more like a penis with the cap off?

Also, if Marvel/Disney/etc was to hire a black/female/gay director and it didn’t work out (as with Trevrow, Trank, Wright etc) then what kind of publicity s**t storm would they face if they tried to sack them or bring in someone to fix their work as they’ve done with other directors.

I love The Last Jedi, and I loved Brick and Looper. There are definitely exceptions. I think Johnson was a good choice from the outset because his movies were definitely genre pieces, with distinct styles and their own worlds. Webb was always a head-scratcher for Spiderman, in my view.

There are plenty of examples of it going either way. The dude who directed Spider-Man: Homecoming had a similar resume, but that movie was good so it’s seen as an inspired choice. Same with the dude who directed Kong: Skull Island and probably several others that don’t immediately come to mind. The catch is, none of

I’m all for indie directors being given a chance on big superhero films in theory, but the track record - Trank, Marc Webb - has not been great. Mind you, the Russos were mostly known for directing sitcom episodes and they’ve made massively entertaining films for Marvel, so who knows.

That’s fine - if he was talking about a 2017 movie called “Jaws” set in Quebec I’d say the same thing

And the Deaf.

What a terrific and inventive flick. First saw it several years ago, and was blown away, as I hadn’t had any expectations at all. Due for a rewatch!

this and Ravenous (on Netflix now) are ultimately worth watching due to interesting takes on Canadian politics and diversity within the zombie genre. but their still lower-budget zombie flicks, so hard to really recommend.

Second the recommendation. I’m due for a rewatch.

nevermind

Because they don’t want to grapple with things like generational poverty or inadequate education funding?

A lot of capital N Nerds don’t actually like movies or think about them in terms of filmmaking as an art form/craft. They like signifiers. They want to see familiar symbols do familiar things and they want the characterization to make them feel strong in the same way that they felt when they were kids.

I made the mistake of joining a horror movie group one time, thinking sharing interests with people might make me like them more. The opposite happened: It made me like my interests less.

Geez man, some people just need a swift kick in the nuts. I didn’t care for the Rose arc at all in TLJ but never once did I ever think about shitting on the actress that played her. I didn’t even think about harassing Rian Johnson or the writers. I did what any normal person would do; crack open some bourbon, sleep it
