They’re actually fairly common at Burning Man. They’re part of the costumes. There are a lot of things that people wear in Burning Man that you wouldn’t ordinarily wear in the desert... :D

We picked a couple of names for both boys and girls. We ended up with a boy and then just picked one of the three boy names we had settled on. But for the first week, I called my baby “George” (not his name) for no goddamn reason. Eventually I started calling him his legal name and I still (13 months later) LOVE it.
We don’t actually know why my grandma’s legal name was, but we all called her Dolly. It’s a great name!
Right. Just like they had to explain why he can’t use the nukes.
Ha ha, yeah. People are really quick to help you out. I stupidly made a comment about diamonds breaking and let me tell you just how many people pointed out that diamonds don’t break... :D
Yup, I agree. That’s why I’m critical of their donation.
So are you saying: porn doesn’t destroy relationships, people destroy relationships?
Yeah I get that...hence the criticism. :D
Is it strange that they donate reading glasses? I’d think there would be more of a need for near-sighted people who can’t see distances.
Uuugh. That’s awful.
Yeah, there’s some real issues with it now. We went in 2012. Apparently there’s a lot of sexual assault that they’re trying to combat. There are elements of it that are cool (my brother goes every year and it definitely allows him to let his freak flag fly - which is the point for many), but I found it so ironic that…
Yes - the culmination of a downward spiral. Well said.
I’d argue that that happened sometime around the time when tickets exceeded 500 dollars and the Burning Man population exceeded 69K...
Yeah - I have a problem with people who talk about it being an individual choice. It impacts the rest of the community so it gets complicated!
Interesting!
Thank you for reminding us of what’s really going on here: that anti-vaxxers would rather risk their child’s life than take the chance of them ‘becoming’ autistic.
Hey so it’s not always a foregone conclusion that owning is cheaper than renting.
Right - it’s actually a commentary on seeking attention vice athleticism. It’s an interesting discussion in the original article by Wallrodt.
Wallrodt does get at that in the article. He’s critical of them because he doesn’t think they were trying their personal best or being competitive - they were just doing it to get attention.
Yup I hear you. I tell anyone and everyone about my PPD. Don’t care if it’s super awkward...people need to understand it.
