I think I would have been someone who would have benefited from having more women in my classrooms. In high school and college, I felt so stupid compared to the guys in my classes. It definitely encouraged me to pursue soft sciences. When I was older and had more confidence, I realized that the guys could talk a good

Both of you are citing anecdotal evidence so I’d be curious to see what the difference was between midwives and doctors on a large scale.

That’s tough! You’re not guaranteed FMLA in that case. Good luck. This is why we need changes to maternity/paternity leave. We had ours a couple of months ago and little Virginia will start daycare at the end of the month. I was ready to go back to work at the end of my 12 weeks, but it helped knowing that Mr.

OK, I see what you are saying now.

Yikes!

Interesting point.

Yeah I definitely agree with you - on all your points as far as her original intention. But I think it also comes off differently than she intended, especially for women who are trying to figure out and plan daycare or to stay at home...or for women who are newly postpartum. Women face a lot of judgment and guilt for

Fair point.

I agree with you...but the message was somewhat garbled in the way she presented it.

I just would tell people that I don’t like taking care of small children. Shuts ‘em up pretty well. Life’s to short to feel guilty.

The original article is the one that is problematic, not just Tracy’s article. The author is trying to make the case for better family leave (which is admirable), but by her experience it ends up coming off as you’ve written - if you go back to work after three months...who knows if your child will live!

I’m not sure I completely agree with you about the bounds of a house master’s involvement (rather, being completely apolitical), but I do think you bring up a great point about the context. I was somewhat perplexed that her email went out to the listserv. So perhaps she does intend to be antagonistic/devil’s advocate

I know. Is it so wrong to want to live in a law-abiding civilization where I don’t feel compelled to bring weapons with me in order to guarantee my safety when I’m out about the town for a nice evening?

Most likely he ran a complex algorithm to optimize survival rates.

I also found her letter to be very cautious. She wasn’t trying to be inflammatory or even assertive, but rather she was trying to provoke a conversation. The tone was more like, “what about this idea? How should we view that?”. They caused me to think. Not necessarily agree with her, but to think about it, which I

Hey also - sometimes kids have extra weight that they lose when they shoot up. My sister and her friend were both a bit round when they were about that age, but when they grew in height they naturally shed the weight.

What a stupid question. This article’s hilarious, but what a stupid, stupid question. Is this really what we ask of our presidential candidates?

Maybe just donate the money to a good cause? I feel like that would really grate on the heirs but also do some good?

My Republican husband’s comment about Fiorina: “you know, she could be pretty formidable in this election if only she didn’t struggle with facts so much”.

Oh they’re held to a different standard alright. The standards were pretty damn low for Sarah Palin.
