This type of play style is really awesome if you use a power armor type build. You really need to upgrade and maintain it, as well as take the perks that lower fusion core cost so your cores last longer. Yeah Bethesda made a huge deal about armor layering and upgrades, and I think there are only 5 under garments that work with it. With high charisma you can pacify and tame a deathclaw to follow and fight for you. I think if you fast travel you lose it though.
