@avclub-83de02c3cfc3634de1279cbc17a8fbae:disqus These recaps have inspired a re-watch on my part, I'll have to see if I feel the same way. But I think there is just too large a quantity of one-off episodes in Season 1 to convince me.

@avclub-438f54f8c5a3a6f58ce5a69d37294fe9:disqus Yeah, that's basically my point —- the 5th year essentially got squished into the 4th, and then there just felt like there was a gaping hole, and JMS didn't fill it very well.  For the main characters we had gotten to know so well, it felt like their stories were

I find having a more interesting story to tell (with stronger, concise writing & characters) tends to correlate with show quality ;)

I think you're absolutely right, but I'm surprised that the shift came in the course of one episode. I wonder where they plan on going with the character from there.

Yes, it was a dickish move. She could have pre-ordered it, and then disposed of it if Boo happened to get the audition.  Worked as a plot point, though — I laughed aloud at the reveal in Michelle's dream (even though, to my recollection, she had never SEEN the cake)

Wow, Well spotted, sir.  It's hard to understand the actions of someone who believes so drastically different from yourself, but I think you found a great parallel here. I don't think many B5 fans would argue that this was the "same" Anna.

I'm a fiscal conservative, but a social liberal. The one-sided-ness of the jokes in the episode left me rolling my eyes more than not.  They could have at least TRIED to feign some sense of being equal opportunity.  I can take a joke, but there were plenty of [neglected] chances to make Democrats look foolish too.

What I loved about Lorelai/Emily is that both characters were genuinely flawed, but like most real mother/daughters, both were too stubborn to admit it, and neither could quite put themselves in the other's shoes.   It didn't just make it one-sided where Lorelai was the poor misunderstood daughter with the controlling

I agree, this episode didn't get me laughing aloud the way the first two did. But I'm still engaged, and looking forward to the next episode.

It's funny because Lauren Graham was one of the many reasons I got into Parenthood (which I ADORE), but ironically it was Lauren's character in Parenthood that is the least interesting and relatable character for me. SWhile I still think Lauren Graham's a great actress (she sells what she gets in that show) but it
