Reporter's video of him murdering a cop with tactical efficiency was all the verification I needed. He'd have gotten the death penalty anyway (this is Texas we're talking about), he saved everyone a lot of time and money by refusing to surrender.

Per the statements of the authorities, he had admitted to being the shooter, was actively threatening to shoot anyone who came in for him, and threatening to set off explosives elsewhere. That's taking yourself from suspect to imminent threat, and the police addressed it appropriately.

He'd killed five cops and was making credible threats that he had planted explosives he could trigger. His life was forfeit at that point. While many killings by police are bullshit, I'm not sure you could find a clearer case where killing a suspect to prevent further injury or death to the public is justified.

I'd say it was exactly the right thing to do. No one's life was needlessly put at risk confronting a murderous perp.
