Well that says more about Android, and by proxy Google, than it does Sony. However, it's not just as Warriorscot stated, a failure to update in a timely manner is a "Sony thing in general" and is in no way limited to just Lollipop.

My biggest gripe with Sony Android devices is that they are shockingly bad at providing updates on a timely basis. This alone is the reason I will never purchase another.
