Thank you for bringing this up. I’ve been seeing this argument all over the place lately and it seriously baffles me. I want to rip out my hair in frustration, but then I remember that these crazies have the same goal as the right wing crazies: they want the world to burn.

Aside from making me insanely happy, Parks and Rec was the first show that genuinely made me question all my life decisions, as in I should have moved to NY/LA to write for a tv show when I was young and had the chance. It connected with me on that level

I just think of this:

Maybe they were trying to lighten the mood or something? That’s all I can think of, I find it hard to believe that someone edited that and said, “Yep, there it is, that’s exactly right.”

I feel like it started strong, the Jay Reatard song was good, and that Heart of Glass cover really worked. I was a little “eh” on White Rabbit (because it just makes me think of Fear and Loathing), but it wasn’t the worst choice. Those other song choices were profoundly uninspired and it’s just surprising for a show…

I know, I just took for granted that all shows pick songs well because so many do. But Nina Simone was not at all the right vibe for that moment of defiance, and American Girl was SO on the nose, it was just weird.

This show has done things to me emotionally that I didn’t know a show could do. I was a sobbing mess at the end of basically every episode, but I was so so into it. And I loved the changes from the book, even though some of them took some getting used to.
