Take any random video, say sesame street and edit in a loud noise and scary face that pops up suddenly and people will jump. Not a skill. The atmosphere in the game is scary and top notch. The jump scares are cheap (not including the environmental ones like the deer etc)

A jump scare is to horror what tickling is to comedy. Requires no effort or skill at the craft to evoke a response. Game is plenty scary as is and Remedy didn;t need to do this. The jump scares were pure streamer bait a la Five Nights at Freddy’s.
