Until this year (and it will be reassigned in the future) there was a pipeline running under Montreal and since oil does have to come to our city and be redistributed to the neighboring area, yes,  I would much prefer that to happen with a pipeline than with trucks and trains.

I’m assuming you’re in your twenties and still believe that by the time oil starts to be fazed out you and your relatives will be retired.

Treasury bonds are a way for governments to finance the spending and investing they’re responsible for. Only someone wanting to split hairs wouldn’t consider that a debt since if a government hadn’t found buyers for those bonds it would have to borrow cash or raise taxes instead. Bonds are IOUs on pretty paper.

It is the safest way. That doesn’t mean pipelines couldn’t be made safer with leaks detected more quickly. Surely there was a drop in pressure when all that oil leaked out instead of staying in the pipe. A shoulder shrug about failing monitoring systems isn’t a good enough answer.
