Frisco, the city that wanted it, put in 115m. The Cowboys put in over 350m. The city gets to use if for local sporting events, highschool games, and gets a cut of the tourism revenue. It’s is expected to recoup it’s costs in five years. The facility is projected to bring in 23.5 BILLION dollars over the next 30 years.

Collin County has been trending blue for years, and Dallas County right next door has been solid blue for decades. Not really going to make a ton of difference in the overall scheme of things, but hopefully accelerates Collin County’s shift.

So companies can’t relocate their headquarters because patriotism? What are you even trying to say? Are you high?

Because the “Korean” H-Mart in Plano carries predominantly Japanese products, maybe? Perhaps because the owner of the store is Japanese? Maybe that’s why it’s located in a shopping center with sushi and ramen restaurants?

Maybe you shouldn’t be making assumptions about a place you’ve clearly never been.

Hard 8 is literally exactly 10 minutes from the new Toyota HQ.

Dude, you literally have no idea what you’re talking about.

You seem to think Toyota will be cranking out Tacoma’s in Plano. They aren’t. It’s 100% HQ jobs. I have a buddy who was just hired there as a software developer.

Yes, Plano is a tech hub. HP, Dell, EDS, TR, Wells Fargo, McAfee/Intel, Flextronics, some regional

Clearly — comparing the Chargers to the Cowboys, much less their practice facilities, illustrates this. :)

No, my point is that Plano’s apartment scene is basically dying. There’s an initiative (“Plano Tomorrow”) to build more that’s frequently being fought by a lot of the residents, but so far finally seems like it might start moving forward — they haven’t even broken ground, though.

There’s plenty of cheaper apartments in

Gaining 3-4000 jobs and making your city even more of a tech hub than it already was is a losing investment because those jobs moved from California. Especially when it only costs $40m, a sum that will be recouped within two years from all those new employees, their families, and the additional business that generates

Tell that to the clientelle that frequents the local H-Mart.

Also, Plano’s Asian population is predominantly Japanese, just like Arlington’s is predominantly Korean and Richardson’s is predominantly Chinese.

Maybe you should do a bit of research as well.

I didn’t realize that the Governor of Texas was also the President of the United States. You’re suggesting Plano should feel bad that it’s residents happen to be American citizens? What the fuck are you even talking about?

Man we have some damn good food in the area.

You’ll know you’re eating dinner with a Texan when they start recommending other restaurants while you’re in the middle of chowing down at one.

Because the author of the article is new to Jalopnik and doesn’t know what he’s writing about. He’ll be an editor in no time.

DFW is the largest airport in the US.

And Cinemark, Pizza Hut/Frito Lay/Yum! brands, Dr Pepper/Cadbury Schweppes, HP, Wells Fargo, Rent-A-Center, Marriott, and some others. And those are just the ones with Corporate HQ’s here. I’m including the other ones that employ thousands of people, like Pepsico, AT&T, and others.

No, but you can clock out of work and watch the Dallas Cowboys practice at their shiny new practice facility down the street, and enjoy your beer there.

You say potato, I say potato.

We already have all of those in Plano, though.

It would be like the fourth or fifth asian supermarket in plano, so it doesn’t really sound like they’ve done much market research. It’s pretty saturated.

>cheap APT

These disappeared about 3 years ago when Toyota announced the move. One of my old complexes off the Tollway had a “Welcome Toyota!” billboard up for about two years, presumably until someone told them the move hadn’t actually started yet.

Duuuuuude. Stop. Just, stop. Go spend 20 minutes talking to an accountant, then come back.
