Wow, just found a guest column by Sarah Polley in NYT. Harvey Weinstein pretty much sank her career after she refused his advances. One wonders why he even produced this film, but he is obviously not much of one for introspection.

Haha, I’m the same. White don’t crack if you respect it and don’t tan the hell out of it. My nadir was (at age 32) being asked “what school ya’ go to?” by a pimple-faced teenaged boy.

Hell, yes. Some of my most dismal dating experiences were due to “nerdy” men who openly let me know I wasn’t quite good enough for them. 

You “beat” him during the argument. In order to establish his dominance, he needed to make you submit to him, preferably physically. And men wonder why women write down fake phone numbers...

The whole point of sending an unsolicited dick pick is the lack of consent, I think. It’s a way of saying “I view you as a fuck object. Don’t really care how you feel.”

The rumor is that Harmon got her fired because she objected to his dog running loose on the set after it bit a crew member. A bad bite—like 15 stitches worth.

Seriously. When I first read about the settlement, I had to google him. Never heard of him, nor the show. Dushku, though—she’s actually a star. 

I’m puzzled as to why an office full of social workers and security personnel couldn’t ameliorate this without calling police. Like, ask someone to give up a chair, or scoot an extra chair out of the office. 

He’s been delusional for a while

I was puzzled by Franken’s resignation. This is a politician who dug in for a brutal recount in 2008, and didn’t waver. That’s what made me wonder if there was more—like additional or more egregious accusations. In any event, I hope donor grudges won’t put Gillibrand’s  seat in danger of a GOP pick-up. 

Poor Desiree Washington. I believe she had to go into hiding for a while due to the death threats.  

Oh for gods sake, it’s a ban on hats, left over from a time when Congress was all-male. And also from a time when hat-wearing inside was considered a sign of disrespect. It’s not anti-hijab or anti-yamulka or any other symbolic headgear—it is just a dumb old sexist relic. I actually think they should be careful about…

Cleveland also has a terrible record for rape case clearance, which disproportionately affects black women. Oh, and there was the serial killer who was stashing many of the bodies of his 11 victims (all black women) in his house. Neighbors tried to alert police repeatedly, while this guy raped and killed over and…

My white male friend was under doctor’s care and died from pneumonia. He got a bad flu and it segued into pneumonia and sepsis (blood poisoning). He had massive organ failure.

I encourage everyone in GA to do air-quotes when they say “Governor” Kemp. Should make man-on-the-street interviews amusing. 

Yeah, this could be a bigger problem: the studios and the (white) audience want to have stories centered on “good” white characters.  It consistently misrepresents the pervasiveness of racism while upholding white supremacy.

The trailer was a massive cringe. The film’s main assumption is that we should care about the character development of a jerk white man. I honestly think there needs to be a movement to diversify film story-telling about black people. White directors and screenwriters just can’t get away from feeling empathy only for…
