Splitegate = bestgate. Always.
Splitegate = bestgate. Always.
Any rumor that a 70 series makes it to the US is automatically DOA in my opinion. It aint happenin’. Not to mention that the GX as a prado is actually pretty popular.
What styling?
Yeah, if the Rabbit were 25% more expensive it’d be impressive, like a Civic beating a 3-series. But I don’t think that was the case.
Wow, talk about a self-own.
To be fair, they had simply rebadged a Japanese-engineered car, so the near-victory really belongs to Isuzu. It’s very impressive for Isuzu, which we now hardly see making passenger cars. GM just cheated off their test and managed to keep making “also ran” compacts to this day.
That Cologne was no Brut, or maybe it was...
I wonder how loud the power steering pump whine is in this example?
This is too expensive but goddamn this is well done. I can’t speak for someone else because the seller could honestly be in the middle of an emergency but if I were to put this much work into a car I’m not selling it unless someone is offering me randomly (aka I’m not going to actively post it). hats off to this guy.
Correction: There are some mods to certain cars that add value to a small portion of people. To the rest of vehicles and vast majority of people, it loses value.
Too much for cheap bastard Jalops, but another VW enthusiast will appreciate the high levels of quality and buy this. My only grip is the 1.8T which wasn’t VW/Audi’s finest hour. These are notorious for impossible to find vacuum leaks amongst other issues and had narrow power band. I have one in my Audi TT and it’s…
Looking at the work that’s been done, and how much it would cost to repeat, including the cost of a Cabrio, I actually think the price isn’t bad. If the paint’s well done, that’s 1/3 of the price right there. You’d have to really want to do this to a Cabrio though.
ND on any of these 1.8Ts—a horribly engineered POS that I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with through way too many friends who made dumb decisions. I also never saw the appeal of these cabrios unless Heather Graham was driving it, though this looks decent for what it is.
Same. This was someone’s passion project ... and I’m not feeling it
Nah, the 20v 1.8t is pretty stout and will last 200k+ if you use the right oil (wrong oil will sludge them) and don’t push too much boost through it. Massive CP either.
Maybe worth $15K to some VP of sales whose daddy didn’t buy her the VW Cabrio she wanted for her sweet-sixteen, but highly doubtful anyone else will pony up that much for a 35 year old VW.
As a guy who’d dabbled with hot-rodded VWs, I can appreciate the builder’s tastes and well-crafted updates to this ’Basket. I wouldn’t be embarrassed to cruise the next VW Waterfest with this little scooter. Hell, if I had the time and budget to detail it out, it’s worth showing at the next Waterfest.
“Also, stay away from grocery store shrimp cocktail”
I feel like a Corrado or Sirocco is a much more timeless and desirable starting point than a Golf convertible.
I always get suspicious when someone spends a lot of moola on fixes, upgrades and mods . . . and then puts it up for sale, expecting to be repaid for his “investments.”
