In my opinion, I feel the whole Spore “cute vs creepy” fiasco disenchanted him to the video game industry and its processes. To have a whole decade of work ruined in a few years (06-08) must be terrible.

It was so heartbreaking to hear Maxis was shut down. I was at GDC when it happened and I knew several people who went across the bay for GDC that day and were unemployed by the time they go home.
Its just sad that the tech demos, some dating back to 1999 had greater gameplay depth than the final product. There was a large change between 2005-2008 where the “cute” faction of Maxis, backed by EA management, in my opinion destroyed the game’s potential to truly be great.
I really hate EA. Spore was going to be Will Wright’s crowning achievement and EA(with a little help from Maxis management) turned it into a disaster. It was also pretty shitty that they brought Wright back for the disastrous launch event for SimCity. If Maxis could have stayed independent with enough financial…
I always chuckle when a space sim presents “accurate physics” as a selling point. Gamers don’t want accurate physics. Accurate physics is boring for combat. All space sims borrow heavily from ww2 flight sims with a few momentum based movement systems shoved in.
Well 6 years later, they finally killed the game so...
force feedback gloves are awesome. I tried a pair at GDC. But they're expensive, almost $15,000!
Very excited about HellDivers! I wonder if the rumor of it being the PS+ game of the month ends up being true.
Basically porting completed games means all the work is programming related, not development related.
My dream PS Vita 2 would be a proper playstation phone. Upgrade the OLED to 1080p., throw in the Nvidia K1/X1 to give the promised PS3 level graphics. Make it run ANDROID. That way you get all the mobile apps including games, social media, and media consumption(Netflix, youtube, etc). Give it a 4g modem and phone+text…
The Nintendo Seal of Approval lives on with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo regulating what goes on their console. For example, Sony has strict rules on the performance and UX of games, such as no long freezes, etc. Every game that is published on a Sony platform needs to pass a Sony QA test. For some studios, games…
As a side conversation, I think we should start a discussion about video game prices. Games are the cheapest they have ever been. The whole console community has committed to the $60 price point for more than a decade, despite inflation and development costs increasing. Mobile games have had their pricepoint set at…
yeah, uh, all that got canceled bud. Spiderman is going to be in the MCU movies instead.
"Game is broken"
"Lets cancel more testing for it!"
Its actually an even bigger ship that absolutely dwarfs the enterprise. And it sorta crash splashes rather than lands.
There's actually a scene in one of the EU novels where R2 shows luke hologram images of his father and mother. Basically showing him what happened in the prequels.
Yes. Macs are a microscopically tiny part of the pc market. They also do not support direct x. There is no reason for a game developer to redesign a whole game for a different graphics api to sell to a very small possible market where the majority of mac owners do not fit the product category of 18-25 year old gamers.
You're out of money for food but you're paying for internet and/or a phone....
What tech bubble are you referring to? I haven't heard of any massive failures in the tech industry to signify such a bubble bursting.
Some of their demos are available on their website when the cards come out. I used the Nvidia Rocket Sled demo all the time when I get my 580
