I spy with my little eye some cars parked next to Mugu Rock on PCH.

Torch: writer Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938) didn’t get Glenn’s letter. Tom Wolfe (b. 1931) did. Small distinction.

Whoa when the 2002 and Corvair start dating??? Awesomeness little find.

I recall the Star Wars Death Star replica (with the awesome garbage disposal pit!) being the wow-that’s-awesome-but-my-mom-can’t-afford-it toy of my youth.

Man I forgot all about that toolbox. Very cool.

I can see it now....POWERED BY ZAGATO

I think what’s missing in this comment thread is that there are so very few cars that are worth a sh*t from the 80s and 90s... so OF COURSE one is going to shell out some dough here and there in the interest of keeping it running.

On the topic of vanity plates, I was at a gas station Friday when a late-model Lincoln Navigator pulled up behind me. (5" from my bumper-mounted bike rack but that’s another story). His vanity plate? “NAVIGTR”.

First thing I added to my 318i was racks and Thule upright mounts for my bikes. The racks get regular use.

Great post! New to E30 ownership myself, I’ve been devouring all the E30 content I can for the past four weeks. I picked up a decently-maintained ‘84 318i on a bit of a whim and have been parsing out its many features/limitations since then. It’s definitely the slowest car I’ve ever owned but I really appreciate the

As a former Seattlite and Car2Go customer, I agree with you on all points, though I was intrigued by the prospect of trying out an-easy-to-park i3. I hope to try one someday when I go back to visit.

Seattle also has Car2Go; I used it quite a bit before moving away in July. Seems like ZipCar had an edge in offering a variety of different kinds of vehicles (like ReachNow) but the Benz-owned Car2Go relied solely on Smart ForTwos. Pity for folks that want to go places with more than one passenger.

Re: #3. Recently moved from Seattle. The graphics really aren’t too intrusive. And really, with the large numbers of Minis and 3ers, plus a smattering of i3s, I wonder if the decals make it a little easier to find your rental.

I think it was the ‘97 LA Show when I saw a long bed Jeep pickup concept. Here we are, 20 years later... maybe it will happen this time. (Eyes rolling)

I just picked up my first E30 as a commuter with benefits. $1400 for a running and rust-free 318i. Sure it’s a slush box with only a trio of cogs but it’s gonna be a fun car to get to know

That middle rocker switch on the close-up image of the shifter: do you get the wiper OR the defroster??? And what’s the rocker below it do?
Anyone?

Been mulling over this post throughout the day and I keep coming back to the Mustang as a comparison point.... If the E30 is the 3rd-gen pony car, the E36 is a lot like the 4th-gen ‘Stang. Not just because of the chronology, but because of the charm of the much-more analog predecessors. And it’s hard as hell to make a

Hacksaw Ridge? Forget that! Peshmerga Ridge! Step aside, Mel Gibson.

An electrical charging station...over by the car wash....Riiiight. :)
