First Off, we need all 3 Legs. I would say that the land based missile is the most important leg of the triad....they are safely at home within the US, and they can hit anywhere in the world, at anytime. USN missiles have a smaller range, and are mostly considered a 2nd strike weapon system...insurance for MAD.

this is absurd. The CSG would not be in range of land based surface to surface missiles in a near peer threat, until that threat has been greatly diminished via USN cruise missiles, air launched cruise missiles, USAF long range bombers, and then eventually by its own carrier wing. What a CSG would have to worry about…

they tried to build a cheap frigate, the LCS, but when they added all the bells and whistles (VLS, Anti-Air Radars) you are not too far off from a DDG51. Can we build a cheap frigate that will give us the hull count at less cost?

sounds expensive...and would take decades. Just keep upgrading the ones we have, 450, 3 tipped icbm’s will work just fine...
