As much as I dislike CUVs, there is no denying that the 2003 FX was incredibly ahead of its time. Still looks fresh today.

Not a rock, but seriously terrible parking skills. Pic taken by me.
One day, after SUVs inevitably fall from popularity, we will look back at the Rock as marking the beginning of a revolution.
A 7-speed manual should be gated IMO. Too easy to mis-shift when going for quick shifts otherwise.
Drove a company car Flex with the base 3.5L several times. Good handling for what it was and the 280 hp engine had plenty of pep. Great visibility and lots of space. Wish there were more physical buttons as opposed to touch controls. Worst part of the car were the seats though, terribly flat with zero support.
My 9-5 wagon is rated exactly at 73 cu ft. with the seats folded, despite being 700 lbs lighter and 10" lower than the Edge. After converting it to E85, makes about 300 hp and 350 tq, so it’s also quicker. You can also get one for $5K instead of $50K. Makes a helluva lot more sense to me.
On a single-lane rural road, why not?
I should've been clearer that what I said above should apply only to single lane roads. I agree with you that multilane highways should only have one speed limit.
Great color, nice condition, the right spec. But...
There should be a special driving test that qualifies a person to drive, say 10 or 20 mph over the limit on certain roads. Obviously it should be tough to pass and require tremendous reflexes/skills. But it should exist. A little sticker on your car or plate to denote this and all would be good.
True. I was just giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Exactly! And since they live in a hurricane-prone area, that implies there’s no snow either. Hence, no legit reason for an SUV.
We only get 91 octane in CA and my 9-5 Aero knocked like crazy and pulled a ton of timing in the summer heat. Converted to E85 and knocks have completely stopped, car runs buttery smooth. I'm only losing 1-2 city mpg tops, probably because I don't have to downshift as often. Moral of the story: Even “Premium” may not…
For the life of me, I still don’t understand why lifted bro trucks are still street-legal. California is cracking down on all sorts of stuff (noise, emissions, a harmless check engine light, illegally imported small cars that bother absolutely no one, etc). Hell, even my E-85 converted Saab is technically illegal…
It actually stands for Reserve. Meaning you're running on the 2-3 gallons of "reserve" gas.
My mom has a base 2.0 Macan with 53 cu. ft. of cargo space. It weighs 4000 lbs and cost $60K. Inefficiency at its finest. The GTI has the same cargo space and is about 800 lbs lighter, while my 9-5 wagon has 73 cu. ft. and is about 300 lbs lighter. Crossovers aren’t as efficient as a wagon or hatch, end of story. If…
For me Saabs were always cool because you could do this:
Stupid CAFE standards, that's why. Encourages fast SUVs over wagons.
I just came here to comment on the Trabant in the article pic.
Saab (Born From Jets) makes perfect sense for a jet pilot.
