My wife says I’m not allowed to send corrective notes. There was a math assignment that talked about judy using 4kw/hr for and hour and 3kw/hr for another hour. Damn it teacher, there is no kw/hr unit. It’s not a thing.

I’d be more sympathetic to that argument if so many of the current laws are some version of “you can’t start a new taxi company to compete with existing taxi companies” If it wasn’t for that sort of thing, there wouldn’t be an uber.

That would be a fun game to play “What about our lives will outrage people in 50 years”

Our eldest is learning about various measurement units in school, and so has a list of units along with a typical example of the measurement (liter=large soda bottle). Which is all well and good until we got to the ton.

Singletons seemed to have wanted those SUV’s.

Plants absorb CO2 and turn it into plant matter, but eventually, plants die and then rot, releasing the CO2 back into the air. As I understand it, to actually reduce CO2 we’d need to start burying plant matter in the ground.

That depends. If you have $1000 and I have $10, and you can deal me $1 of damage for the cost of $50 to yourself, you’ll win.

Maybe there are difficult problems in the world with no easy solutions.

My non proffessional take

“I need something reliable, with a good resale value!”

Most handguns have a deadly range of 50m. The bullet travels farther, but by that time it’s going slower and is less dangerous. Airplanes have nothing to worry about.

I really liked my first chemistry teacher. She had a reputation for being terrifying, but all that really meant was the she was demanding. She set her expectations of us very high, and pushed us to meet them, which was a very welcome break from the more typical go slow enough for everyone to keep up mode most classes

Fan brake should only last for a second or so. Just enough time to ruin a pass or maybe loose a spot.

Instead of fan boost, there should be a fan brake. The most disliked driver gets a limited speed/power reduction. Let the best troll win.

It should be similar to thermoplastics, where the long polymer chains do the tangling and straightening. Surely there are long, complex organic molecules in oil.

“It’s unclear whether the bike was totaled or not.”

Wait, if the capsule reaches orbital altitude but doesn’t reach orbital velocity, then the passengers wouldn’t experience weightlessness, would they?

I liked the narration. Blowing bubbles became a household term and stuck around for a few years. The whole part about “something unexpected happend. A fight broke out for 198th place” (quoting from memory) was priceless.

It’s not difficult to think of some scenario where an armed drone would be a benefit (thinking up scenarios is easy). I think the more important issue is how to weight the risk to police lives vs the risk to people against whom they deploy deadly force. Right now it seems more than a little lopsided.

It probably thins out and becomes more like normal oil once it gets warm. Not saying it’s good, but not quiet as bad as it looks.
