Dont even waste your breath on that

Yep, I’m one of those WOC who was in the black here on Jez for a long, long time then sent to the grays  for questioning the point of one article.

I’ve just given up on commenting because I’ve never gotten out of the greys, despite my being a chill, thoughtful, and formerly quite active commenter. It sucks that there’s ostensibly open conversations here on topics I’m interested in and have valuable input on but can’t because I’m a second class citoyenne here. It

Yeah it was mostly banning from people calling out authors for being tone deaf on racial issues or ignoring them altogether, while misogynistic trolls were able to roam free.

That’s the thing, I don’t think people got banned for that even though this is a feminist site. (Maybe they’re using those words now but I never saw them here from the commenters whose names I recognized.)

Um, even if she didn’t have students covering for her, her being a racist and spreading her bigotry via the internet has something to do with her job. No child of any race should have to get their education from or be left in the care of a White Supremacist. If she supported a pro-pedophilia group online, would you

I’m going to need you to explain what you mean by “political leanings.”

Read the writeup on Splinter; I will say the same here:

So who wants to bet she comes out and says she’s not a racist and lies about getting death threats and how things have been so horrible for her since this news broke?

Still waiting for her to be fired, I think. *checks watch* And I hope somebody at HuffPo got hold of that subscriber list she had, to root the rest of that hornet’s nest out since they have no business whatsoever getting near any children.

These people have always been there lurking in the shadows. Trump and his assent and perceived legitimacy has simply make them feel safe enough to step out into the light. They’re been emboldened and we’re going to continue to see stories like this. Racists aren’t afraid anymore which in some ways a good thing.

If you read the comments on the article about the collaboration between Jezebel and the Root (I can’t even type the portmanteau it’s so perfectly stupid in its representation of an ill-advised idea), several commenters talk about being banned here on Jez, and why. I knew things worked differently at the 2 sites,

I appreciate it, because I didn’t have an agenda, I was just talking and thinking, so it’s good to see there’s others that feel the same.

Strong agree on all points. I’m a longtime lurker and there are some commenters whose perspectives I really miss. Watching some of the commenter drama go down in the last month or so has made the issues with the current system even more apparent to me than usual, and every time I see someone saying something about

Yeah, unfortunately, there’s a history of it. And it makes me feel gross sometimes because I love jez and the community it offers. I’m not white and I’ve been pretty vocal about the issues that effect me, which are addiction and incarceration. It’s hard because I think a lot of commenters here are middle class, which

I so wish wish the jez community was able to moderate ourselves. There’s a lot of commenters that I miss. And the history of banning of POC on here should be a black mark on this site forevermore.

This is exactly the conversation I had with my eight year old:

“If I Could Do It All Over Again, I Wouldn’t Have Given Kato A Room”
