Seems to me more of a mechanic than a genre. Even the recent Harvest Moons have Minecraft-style terraforming, but it’s still within the farming-sim shell of Harvest Moon.

That’s dumb. These are species of animals. In real life, there are male butterflies and there are female scorpions. Why would an animal experience sexual dimorphism because their appearance doesn’t match the gender characteristics of humans, rather than their own species?
