Isn’t “succeeding by making sure other people are failing” basically the entire history of capitalism? They’re right in character as unrestricted capitalists operating this way. For you to win, others need to lose. Parity scares the hell out of them.

Yes and that is the most depressing part of this whole fake controversy.

Yeah. If I were her, I wouldn’t apologize for shit. Anyone who doesn’t have soup for brains can see she didn’t say anything wrong. Unfortunately for her, there are a lot of people in this country afflicted with soup-for-brains-itis and McCarthy is going to do all he can to reach as many of those people as he can. I

I meant work for it in the sense of making them say something truly outlandish rather than their stock response. Like the one door in schools instead of letting them say a good guy with a gun...

I agree with you. But make them work for it. Make them twist themselves into knots trying to create a bad faith argument (like how they’re losing the gun control debate - “let’s have only one door in schools!”). Don’t gift wrap the easiest possible way to dismiss what you’re saying.

You’re right. But have you seen American politicians? A lot of them make their entire living on bad faith arguments. And it’s lucrative. They get reelected all the time.

You’re right that it’s an extremely flawed and problematic way to go about talking about issues, but I would also argue that in our country right now, it’s a political reality. You just have to do it that way because one side of the argument (anyone with an R next to his or her name) is going to use bad-faith to

You’re not wrong. But a not insignificant portion of American voters will now see her as “that anti-semitic congresswoman” (and not just by crazy republicans, but regular old non-political junkies). Most American voters are happy to be misinformed or under-informed if what they see adheres to their beliefs.

Touche.

This was, pretty clearly I thought, my point. It was a clear mistake by Rep. Omar that could be taken advantage of extremely easily by a bad-faith jerk off like Kevin McCarthy.

...what?

Oh god are you a pain in the ass.

Right. I just know that I’m going to check back in tomorrow morning and see 800 responses.

Dude, the text of the tweet in question is this: “GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy threatens punishment for @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib over their criticisms of Israel. It’s stunning how much time US political leaders spend defending a foreign nation even if it means attacking free speech rights of Americans”

Easy joke:

She wasn’t wrong about AIPAC, but fucking come on, you can’t just say Jews control America through money (“All about the Benjamins”) with no context in a tweet. It was just really, really, really stupid.

Eh. Almost all Trump voters angry about this will vote GOP again because I honestly don’t know.

Maybe, but I don’t think it matters. Her problems are more along the lines of half of people hate her, the other half don’t think about her at all, and no one takes her seriously.

Professor Farnsworth? Is that you? Get back to the Near-Death Star!

They’re almost certainly great if you can get one.
