I really can’t believe I’m doing this, but “utter obscurity” literally means “absolute unimportance” or “absolute unknownness”. “Nobody” is a fairly good synonym and probably pretty irritating to the people who voted for him to represent one of the 20 biggest cities in the country in the federal government.
