You started an affair with a 17-year old when you were 24?

I hope they change it to the dedication to his grandma. Goes to show family is important.

I’m with you Le Comte. You don’t have to watch a lot of tennis to know poor sportsmanship. I’ll add that I do watch a lot of tennis, all four majors, both weeks each time, plus many of the tournaments in between. My wife is a junkie and I’m along for the ride. I’ve had a lack of respect for Serena for a long time,

Agreed. I think Serena is a remarkable athlete and the undeniable GOAT in tennis. But god... she can on occasion be an embarrassingly poor sport. It was quite noticeable that her issues with the ump wasn’t a thing until it became clear she was losing. Her invoking motherhood in order to win an argument was eyebrow

You’re too good at sarcasm. Please stick a /s on the end of subsequent posts so people realize you are kidding.

Plus her coach admitted he was cheating in his post match interview. Serena was completely full of shit here.

I mean, after the match, people were literally calling her THE MOST CLASSY ATHLETE OF ALL TIME. After throwing a tantrum at the ref and calling him a thief because he correctly penalized her. What fucking planet are we all living on? I mean, sure, she has been unfairly criticized, but is the way to solve that just

Counterpoint:

She is not unfairly criticized and has a history of abusing match officials.

2009 is a classic (start at the 14:20 mark), of course, but I am also partial to the 2011 variety:
After what she thought was a controversial call against her, Williams went into a tirade against chair umpire Eva Asderaki,

This is the only fair take. I’m guessing upon reflection Serena may admit the same, once she’s cooled off. She was getting beat, and didn’t like it.

What you call balancing the scales I call flat out stupidity or delusion. She’s worshipped no matter what. Like Donald, she could have shot Osaka today and her fans would be mourning how poorly and unfairly poor baby adult parent Serena was treated. If she wasn’t cheating, btw, she probably wouldn’t have had a

Looked to me like Serena was frustrated because she was getting overpowered, where she’s usually the overpowering one. Osaka played great and was a force out there.

Gotta agree. Osaka outplayed her, no question. I feel bad she couldn’t enjoy this victory, because she earned it.

The umpire was right on all three of those calls. It sounds like Williams thought the “coaching” warning was rescinded because she told the umpire she’s not a cheater, but of course that’s not how that penalty works. The call is made against the coach (who admitted he was coaching from the stands), so the player can’t

Can we please stop with the Serena worship? She’s a titan of tennis, a superb athlete, but she’s not without flaws, without her faults. She’s petulant, and this isn’t the first or worst instance of abusing an official in her career.

so when you go to court for a speeding ticket you going to tell them.. well other people speed all the time?

“[Bonerz] would pop up...”

I’ve never seen it. The closest I’ve come is in the Arrested Development episode “My Mother the Car,” where the Bluths are sitting around the house listlessly watching My Mother the Car.

That one I did notice. MST3K trained me from an early age to read the credits in search of funny names. And you’re right about no lack for of opportunity—he would pop up here and there as a guest star until recently, but he was fairly prolific as a TV director (especially of sitcoms).

I only heard it because it used to be a regular punchline referencing terrible shows.  Lot of actor crossover with the Munsters.

He was adorable as Howard Borden. (Who had a brother, Warden Gordon Borden: shades of The Rural Juror, and Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog.)
