Honestly, some hokiness is entirely appropriate for a good-to-great superhero movie. People tend to forget the fact that superhero comics are, at their best, usually kind of hokey themselves.

I wish everyone would stop telling me the cool surprises of Spider-Man 3.

I think she’s overdue for a late career breakout role that reminds everyone just how great and funny she really is.   Something along the lines of Catherine O’Hara in Schitt’s Creek.

I’m sure some Millennial or GenZer will jump in to say that Rush and The Police already sucked without this modification. I’m  just here as a GenXer to tell them that they are wrong.

I have to disagree with you on Frost/Nixon. I may be a little biased bc I saw the play, but he absolutely Ron Howard-ed the hell out of it. Having said that, I owned the dvd and watched it many times, lol

I think Superman is a character where you absolutely have to show his motivations as clearly as you can. Batman has a short-hand: his parents were killed by a street criminal, so he turns his need for vengeance into a war for justice. It’s not a hard motivation to follow, and doesn’t need a tonne of screen time. But…

I saw Lovitz and Dana Carvey live a few years back. At the time I identified them as a couple of cliché SNL has-beens, and expected a mediocre show with too many SNL skit references.
