Ishtar’s great - the guys are supposed to be unhip, that’s the whole point. They think they’re a great songwriting duo who just can’t catch a break, but they’re just bad. That’s why they take the gig overseas that leads to all the hijinks. A few of the jokes are dated, and a few would fall flat at any time, but

Sister, Beautiful Ones, Anotherloverholenyohead ... also, maybe not top 40, but I’d probably throw Tamborine on there just cuz.

Yeah, I also really like how D’Angelo stuck to his guns down in the comments and in a few later articles - he was a really articulate writer who had a lot of brilliant things to say about cinematography on this web site. I pretty much completely disagreed with him about long takes though!

Some institutional history:

I wouldn’t say it sucked, but I’m not sure it’s one of the best finales ever (and I say this as somebody who still really loves the show). But I’m one who really likes season 7, barring a couple lame episodes. The weakening of the ubervamps for the finale takes more than a grain of salt, for sure, but also, it’s not

Tabitha Soren was way more than cute! Like, way.

I know she wrote a lot of stuff for girls, most of which I read numerous times, but, man, Then Again Maybe I Won’t was, like, KEY for me and all the boys I knew.

I was gonna say ... my wife’s Hungarian and she can sing the words to just about any DM song, and they’re not even really a favourite (although she is seeing them this summer for the third or fourth time). They’re just one of those bands that everybody in Hungary (well, over 35 let’s say) knows and everybody loves at

It’s actually pretty easy to find old dudes, music snobs, and blues fans who far prefer the Peter Green years to Buckingham/Nicks.

I think The Field is probably my favourite Sheridan film, and Frank is a very cool Lenny Abrahamson film (no Lenny on this list?); I’d also recommend: Sing Street; The Young Offenders; Kings; and Into the West.

I’ve loved this band (sometimes dearly) on and off throughout many decades, and get that such lists will always be subjective - but it’s hard for me to conceive of any group of their greatest songs not including “Red Hill Mining Town,” yearning Bono at his most epic. Likewise “In a Little While” (I think that album’s

AVClub writers clearly don’t know how to whistle.

Adults can’t always accept it either:

But helped Lost.

Harmy’s Despcialized ... they’re pretty easy to find if you don’t mind going the jolly roger route. It’s the only version I’ve shown my kid, but I’ve also told him he’s in for a surprise if he ever watches them at a friends house, lol.

A pretty solid list overall. I’m one of the few who don’t love Logan Lucky - I get why people do (it is fun), but it seems to retread a lot of other films to me. On the other hand, I like some of his weirder stuff, so I’d probably have made room for at least one of Kafka, Schizopolis, or Bubble. And I think I must be

They’re hard to find these days, but I used to watch Monster in a Box, Swimming to Cambodia, and Gray’s Anatomy about once a year. Hard to explain how utterly watchable they are - you just have to see them.

I was excited to see that, too - although as a personal preference, I’d probably rank their performance second after Prince.

She actually plays two roles in Bound for Glory - Guthrie’s wife Mary and his later singing partner, Memphis Sue.

Can’t remember if it comes up in that doc, but I love the stories about CSN first getting together and exploring the possibilities at various Laurel Canyon parties, where they’d just drift out to a patio or back yard and start working on some arrangements, and the rest of the party goers - all great musicians and
