Saw them in the spring of '91 - in fact, the same night Jane's were playing next town over - and they ripped the doors off the place. I dug Jane's back in the day, but never regretted missing them for Living Color.

I know that TI gets a lot less love around here than it used to (well, I also remember how for a long time it was a great place for hate posting!), but I've always checked it out and enjoyed it as one of the last bastions of old-school, once-a-week AV Club, the site I first started following religiously in the early…
Yeah, it's pretty phenomenal. Of all my late '80s/early '90s stuff still hanging about, it definitely gets the most play.
I don't know if "dominant opinion" or "in certain quarters" really cover the gazillions of dollars these guys have made. Kiss are what they are, but if that was only massive suck with make-up they wouldn't have been nearly as successful (or, yeesh, influential) as they have, regardless of marketing prowess.
Also, his response to Blaine's line about the two of them sharing the love that dare not speak it's name. If I recall correctly, he said, "not that I'm aware of," with his usual fantastic delivery.
In my case, IIRC, drinking heavily was what led me to downloading it in the first place, yeah, fell asleep. Then another drunken night not too long later, took another shot at the second half. Sleep. I think the third try saw me through to the end.
Speaking of boss, Zevon also includes a sly little Springsteen diss near the end of "The Indifference of Heaven."
Lucky you, that means you get to experience her films for the first time. Get on it!
I love the way she lights his cigarette.
Electric Company?
Maybe my humor detector is broken after having seen the headline so many times in the past couple days, followed by an FB comment about how Obama's disgracing the nation, yet again!
That's what I find so gross about it.
Maybe, but this exact headline is popping up all over the place. Yes, it's another lame effort (but very concerted) by the right wing to gin up Obama rage. Just sad to see the AV Club buying into it.
It's like a rabbit hole, only full of simple-minded mouth breathers.
President's don't go to former first ladies' funerals, so Obama is not "skipping" anything (nor did he "skip" Scalia's). And his SXSW appearance has be scheduled for a while. So he's going about his business. And the AV Club has decided - for some bizarro reason - to carry water for right wing trolls. Which is gross.
Aaaand, the AV Club falls down the right wing troll hole. Gross.
Agreed, pretty much. There's something about Blind Leading the Naked that I really love. Maybe because I listened to the cassette so much through my crappy car speakers that the overproduction actually enhanced it a bit. But even with it, those first five or so tracks are just killer . . .
Through the magic of metonymy, I think most people probably equate "album" with vinyl.
Not gonna read the full article, even though it's probably fairly interesting. Sounds like a mix of standard fan studies/star studies. It can be interesting stuff - especially when, on the fan studies side, they get down into the real nitty-gritty - but to me it's always boiled down to, basically, "hey, this guy's…
Well, he goes out to the coast for "the girl," complications arise - she's not sure if she wants him, there's an alternate suitor for her attentions, her job's a total bitch, etc. - but through sheer tenacity, seasoned with a cheeky wit, he manages to win her over. They kiss, cue ride off into the sunset (or sunrise,…
