While that is genuinely silly, The Avengers predates those other two roles by a couple years. Passing on those two lead him to do The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

It’s hard to tell, because even clicking through to the source doesn’t give us an exact quote.

Sounds like Damon was offered net:

Yeah, taking on a role like Episodes show’s he’s reasonably ego-free.

I don’t know if the others were overly serious.  These kind of sit around, shoot-the-shit shows are very different from acting.  I wouldn’t necessarily expect all the actors to be completely comfortable in that environment.

It’s okay, Joss.  We still like a lot of your work.

Again, “bully and all-around asshole” really undersells what he is. He is a serial abuser who seeks to control others. Especially people without power - women and young, inexperienced actors.

bully and a cheater and all-around asshole” actually manages to downplay Whedon’s actions.

Nah, we’re comfortable that he’ll be in jail soon.

They have to care enough to digitally fix the missing pixels.

So it sounds like that’s not a great fit for him either. What’s left?

Yeah, Joss Whedon said a lot of those things, too.

She was just a kid back then, though.

Whedon’s a piece of shit...but he’s also very much a “favorites” guy, and Dushku was definitely one of them.

Yeah, but right-wingers only like the free market when it rewards them!

unlike say, Joel Grey in “yellowface” in Remo Williams, which for some reason gets a pass in all of these kinds of discussions

A Black American man is highly unlikely to have a distinctively Nordic surname like Nordberg (i.e. a name that usually denotes extra-pale Northern European ancestry). That’s the joke.

Lots of overlap with “no terrorists” there.

You know what I hated? (apart from the flag smashers) - the new costume. It looks like an Evel Kneivel cast-off. I know it’s (fairly) comics-accurate, but I much prefer the classic colouring of the Rogers version.

it’s clear that just like that great Justice League episode where they travel back in time to fight alongside DC’s World War 2 heroes, Cap’s adventures seem to take place outside reality. Which is why the actual Nazis are mostly left out of those stories, replaced by Hydra and Vandal Savage.
