That is a far to reasonable take for the Internet.

Most people in the U.S. and Canada have no clue how different our automotive landscape is compared to the rest of the world.

Counterpoint: Profit-maximizing is sole the purpose of auto manufacturers.

You see, a sub-compact crossover might as well be a Suburban.

All automakers are big, lumbering things. They can’t respond in a few week’s time. Gas prices have only been way up for a few weeks (not including the griping about nominal prices prior to Feb. 19). It’s impossible to respond this quickly, even if all you have to do is hit the on switch at an idled plant. Also, modern

I feel like the regular to premium spread really started getting wider around 2012-13. I got my first turbo car in 2009 and even in Chicago where I was living it was still stuck at 10 cent jumps between grades. I would regularly drive between Illinois, Central Indiana, and SE Michigan and when I moved to michigan in

There are plenty of small cars out there that get decent to really good fuel economy - the HRV, the CH-R, the Kona, etc. etc.  I know it’s not fashionable to like them on this site - but let’s not act like the only vehicles out there, new, are massive, hulking SUVs that consume gas like Trump gorging on McDonalds.

Perhaps that price difference is based on demand, where midwest states maybe don’t have as many cars tuned for premium, so it’s a commodity less in demand and thus suffers a higher cost for those who need it.

Simple, with shortages why would a manufacturer shift from a car that they make only a few $ (and I do mean like single/double digit profit) or worse, lose money per vehicle soold vs a high margin “SUV”/car with hundreds.

One is also likely 1000x safer in an accident.

I’m with you. Crack 50 and clear and the 928 comes out.

I’m not gunna jump on the hate trane, but toning down the spin and political bent would help a little. Seems like someone cranked it up to 11. Take it back to like 5 and we’re good.

These articles should really be named something like “Here’s the BaT cars with a strong niche demand that Jalopnik apparently doesn’t appreciate and NADA doesn’t accurately reflect since it’s so niche and NADA is more focused on accurately pricing 3 year old Camry’s and Explorers”

to be fair, they’re primarily looking for a daily. I understand getting something AWD, safe, and responsible before doing driving school and picking up a beater Miata, et al.

This is good advice! She should also just buy a Crosstrek.

If you ever needed a case for “direct sales means you pay more money,” the Apple situation is exactly that. At any given time some retailer is running a deal on Airpods and/or Apple Watches. It might only be $20-$100, but on something that costs $150, $20 is a decent percentage below MSRP.

Baffles me that people don’t get this.

As a Democrat I can easily pick holes in Republican’s actions, but it’s not like Democrats are innocent here. I think the “but look at them!” argument is used waaaaay too often and prevents Democrats from acknowledging and fixing flaws.

Love this. Absolutely true. My house is worth a freaking fortune right now and if I hadn’t torn it apart for renovations I would sell it right now and hunker down in an apartment until the market corrects.

Thats a very horrible way to look at this.
