*my FAVORITE overall OST on the NES. sometimes I say what I mean the first time around.....

I’m totally with you on SNES Sim City; that music is lovely.

Beautiful tracks, Alexandra! Thanks for this. I’m glad the composer made the smart choice to branch out from Speccy-era percussion. He seems to know the right places to cheat to evoke nostalgia without becoming a slave to it.

Man, that FDS version was fantastic! An honorable mention goes to the serviceable Colecovision version, which I only found out about last week. I couldn’t find an isolated rip, but this should give you an idea:

Chef’s kiss! Never heard of this game or its music, and it’s really good; thank you!

Although I should know better, I always get Shadowgate mixed up with Shadowrun. So thanks for playing these! I realized I’ve heard a lot of them before, but I totally stopped when I heard “Subterranean Cavern” (the actual youtube link calls it “Castle Room 2"). Masuno’s totally doing an homage to Erik Satie’s

Most of the Master System games I bought were $49.99, except for games like Ys($54.99) and Phantasy Star ($69.99). And yet today I balk at forking over anything more than $35 for a new non-AAA title! Okay okay, my dad bought them.  But still.....

Surely, thou doth jest. Seriously, thanks for posting this. It’s shown me that listening to the WW ost is a lot more enjoyable than listening to it in-game. A buddy of mine did a Twitch stream recently, and hearing the level music transition to the ‘Warrior is about to die’ theme every 30 seconds was incredibly

This era of music was prone to repetitive techno, but Tekken’s tunes still hold up if one doesn’t have unrealistic expectations. Listening to these tracks reminds me of how the characters’ movements always looked like psychotic marionettes to me. Coupled with the metallic and explosive hit sfx, the Tekken series

You said that so much more diplomatically than I would have! I have much to learn.

So good! I’m a fan of Yamanishi, and Elemental Master is classic. Gotta say though, my favorite Tecnosoft composers are Naosuke Arai and especially Tomomi Otani. Otani was also a teenager in High School when he composed Thunder Force II and Herzog Zwei, which is one of my favorite all-time OSTs. Pixelated Audio did a

Yes please! Revenge of Shinobi is one of my favorites. Of course Koshiro did so much beyond the Genesis (Although it’s my favorite)....his work on Super Adventure Island, lost in early-90’s R&B as it was, seems fitting for a morning music post.

There are a ton of famous examples; the High-Seas Havoc track that borrows from Final Fantasy, the Chrono Trigger Rickroll are the first two that come to mind.

I like what you’re coming up with so far. Since you mentioned the arcade version of Ninja Spirit in one of these articles, I’ll share that I wouldn’t be at all upset if a future post gave it some love.

Okay, this checks.

Thanks for the tunes!

I’ve played the arcade version, the SMS version, and the NES version, and I prefer them in that order based on their fidelity to the prototype’s vision. I respect your opinion to feel differently, even though your dogmaticism comes off as a little insulting.

Here’s the photo:

So much to say; I’ll try to keep it brief (failing already!). Going back to yesterday’s conversation, arcade Bionic Commando is a perfect example of early Capcom making that bless’d YM2151 sound shrill and strident. Yes, the NES version sounds so much better.
