And? That’s the target audience for Dessen’s books, right? Is it always internalized misogyny to say a particular author’s books are good for their intended audience of teenage girls but not good as thought provoking required reading for college students? You can read into her comments a thing she didn’t say, i.e.

The only thing we know about this particular person, based on one sentence, is that she doesn’t think Dessen’s books are good for a required (not for pleasure!) college reading program. She didn’t say anything broader about YA novels, or about whether any author’s works, Dessen’s included, are “worth reading.”  She

Don’t break your back reaching for those conclusions. “for pleasure” books aren’t something universities are going to assign for mandatory reading. These ‘common’ reading lists are supposed to challenge a young person’s ability to analyze, interpret and draw conclusions on a more complex level than they did in high

This reminds me of when Nicholas Sparks said he doesn’t write romance novels and that he was actually the natural successor to Hemingway, Shakespeare, and Euripides. (I’m 100% serious about this.)

Living up to that commenter name.

A girl I used to work with in the Alinea Group is the Bar Director for this place- and she’s incredible. Weath of knowledge, hardworking, and genuinely sweet, she’s going to do some incredible things with those cocktails!

The Takeout has a strange, but utterly devoted, contingent of teetotallers, and they seem to just live for posting all kinds of random bullshit on anything Bernot posts.

Don’t forget that time they blew up a neighborhood. Or that time they poisoned the groundwater in Erin Brockovich’s town. Or the fact that they still started the Kincade Fire even though it was in the PSPS area. Or...or...or...

It’s never been less likely to get fixed than it is now. Being angry at folks over typos while they’re worried about getting laid off or driven out isn’t going to accomplish anything.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

The Negroni is named after it’s inventor, Pascal Olivier Count de Negroni so I think we can leave that one alone. A dude’s name shouldn’t be a microaggression.

An old friend of mine who owns a German restaurant back home in Arkansas, which of course has a menu focused on German fare without much variation, uses the house specials to flex his culinary school training a bit. He still tries to remain within the realm of Teutonic cooking, but stretches the ingredients a bit to

If you go to a public place, you need to act in a certain way. Bars are for socialization.

You should have said something.

This is insane. It’s not an “unusual out of state ID”, it’s her official fucking government issued driver’s license.  The writer, and Salty, weren’t advocating this bartender be fired or shamed, just that his training sucks and he handled the situation poorly.  That’s pretty objectively factual.  If I’m not attempting

The best option is to talk to your server. They are better able to handle the situation because of their position. No matter how friendly you are, you are coming from the position that they are annoying you so they are much more likely to be on the defensive.
