I remember buying Ramune and some other Japanese snacks from ThinkGeek back in the Naughts. Good stuff.

That dash and “Driver Information Center” are Cassette Futurism at its finest. Having said that, “I drove it for two hours without any issues!” doesn’t strike me as all that great of a selling point, even for a 32 year old car. Maybe not a CP, but a 4 pack of Bartles & Jaymes?

Peak oil, much like the flying car, fusion power and Half Life 3, is perpetually 5-10 years off.

SpaceX is still touting reuse of Crew Dragon, but I didn’t see anything from NASA. Last I heard was what you said. Maybe Gwynne knows something that we don’t?

do they provide the snacks on launch day?

Okay, I’d admit I was too hasty in labeling Mazda “niche”, though I’d disagree that Subaru is either, despite their reliance on Boxers.

Elon’s like George Lucas: he’s got tons of ideas, some good and some bad, but he needs a firm hand to guide and filter those ideas. Fortunately SpaceX has that in Gwynne, but it’s a shame there’s no one at Tesla to do the same.

I would not have thought it so, but Subaru no, Mazda yes.

NASA’s not funding SpaceX, they’re buying SpaceX’s products. They very much have put ULA in their place, especially the colossal boondoggle that is Shelby’s Lunch System, though (as it is with Tesla) it’s not only Musk, it’s Gwynne Shotwell and the thousands of engineers and technicians making it all work.

Neutral: If I’m honest, I’m enjoying month 2 of full-time WFH. Hopefully we get to keep doing this if/when we get back to normal.

Ford USA sold 349,091 cars in 2019. They sold 2,422,698 total vehicles last year. Tesla is a niche player, if only one with larger footprint (and a rabid fanbase...).

Elon didn’t found Paypal, he founded x.com, which was bought by Confinity (founded by Gawkmodo’s favorite person Peter Thiel), which renamed itself PayPal and was then bought by eBay. Same with Tesla; he didn’t found it, he just provided VC, then ousted Martin Eberhard as CEO.

Oof. I could almost buy a second TL Type-S with the difference. And it’s (potentially) under recall too?

Why is this an either/or choice? Is Tesla so inept that they can’t transfer info then wipe a drive?

If you choose to transfer, they can’t wipe the old one on the spot anymore, as it is no longer in the car.
