Stop. When you say things like this, it prevents people from getting the help they need. “If I’m never going to get better, why bother?”

Can we fucking stop with this rhetoric? I get that people do it to be supportive but it’s really shitty.
Glad you’re enjoying it. I’ve watched it MANY times, haha. And that actor is THE BEST/WORST FANNY, you just want to smack her curlicue face so hard, haha.
Enjoy! Also on hulu I believe is the 2008(ish?) miniseries for Emma, with Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller!
THere is a memoir of the book by Thompson. You need to read it! :-)
Emma Thompson also married Greg Wise after this...if I’m not mistaken
I love the Emma Thompson S&S so so so much. I cry every damn time I watch it. Have you seen the 2007 miniseries one with Dan Stevens as Mr. Ferrars? Also very good! (On hulu right now, I believe)
I also really love this film adaptation, though it does kind of fumble the ending. Still, if I had a friend who were just getting into Austen, I’d show them this before the Ehle/Firth BBC miniseries. lol i’m so sorry i missed that 2005 episode of the daily show
Bless you for having the patience to break this all down for that fool.
I’m sorry you had to type all of this but I’m really glad you did. Such a fabulous succinct way to gram the argument. My skin crawls whenever anyone makes the comparison between her and trans people.
“I find her blanket justification of “race is a social construct” overly simplistic. “Race is just a social construct” is a retort I get quite often from white people who don’t want to talk about black issues anymore. A lot of things in our society are social constructs—money, for example—but the impact they have on…
we get a metric ton of bullshit thrown in our face whenever we ask any questions.
I’ll tackle that second question. To preface this, I am transgender and medically transitioning.
Lately, the only unrealistic thing about the Handmaid’s Tale (at least to me) is that Offred and her husband could afford a house in Cambridge.
It’s great that this is being brought to light.
