Oh, I’m not under any illusions that this will hurt his career.

That was my first thought. And even without the pandemic, assuming he was telling the truth (hahaha), it still makes his family look like spoiled brats. While the rest of the state freezes, the girls get to go on a fun vacation?

Yes, this was more my impression based on, admittedly, the little I know about Japan: not a huge fan of outsiders, and if you do manage to immigrate, be prepared to assimilate quickly.

Agreed. Probably just poorly worded, though even as far as stereotypes go, wealthy people benefit from more positive ones than negative ones.

Thanks — I probably should have Googled before I posted. I think they may have been more anti-immigration in the past, but a brief search revealed numerous articles (haven’t had a chance to sort through them) re: how it’s evolving over time. It’s a more nuanced situation than I’d previously thought.

Isn’t Japan also strongly anti-immigration even though their population is declining?

I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but saying that rich people face discrimination is like saying that skinny people face discrimination.

I know poor white people go to prison too, but it’s still not even close:

I totally get what you’re saying. What I meant that it’s only in the last few years that you see people like John Legend going on podcasts and pointing out that Prisons Are Bad and the end result of a system that is designed to keep people of colour subjugated. But the message isn’t typically “abolish prisons” so much

I think if more white people got locked up, change would be more imminent, but yeah, a) I’d rather fewer people got locked up period, b) the system isn’t designed to incarcerate white people at the same rate.

If it ends up being a middle name, I hope it’s at least a second one and not third like Charlotte’s.

So depressing but not surprising that it will absolutely take the White Perspective to accomplish any kind of meaningful prison reform.

I did not see, but I just Googled and OMG yikes. Grooooossss. Man, I hope Trachtenberg had some good people around her growing up. As a fairly prolific child actor, she probably jumped from one toxic set to another.

Always soooooo cringe.

He was absolutely complicit in the wardrobe malfunction and let Jackson take the fall. I thought I knew the full story too, but I learned a lot from the You’re Wrong About episode on it (a great podcast in general).

That still seems pretty low, all things considered.

They’ll never give up Page Six.

I have two exes who have, continually over the years, tried to contact me through various online platforms. If I don’t answer you on one site (to the point of even blocking one of them), what makes you think I want to hear your apology on another?

I considered alimony and child support but that still seems awfully low, especially because I’m assuming after, say, the fourth divorce, he got some ironclad prenups. But I don’t know much about this stuff — if you were married to someone for less than a year in the 60s, how much do you still owe them in 2021?

Will Jezebel stop linking to the Daily Mail in general? They show up all the time in Dirt Bag.
