Better than Larry Jr.
Better than Larry Jr.
This website’s inconsistent treatment of Davidson has been head-scratching, to say the least.
Yes, there was a reason I specifically referenced Hoffman.
All I’m saying is that the “super different outcomes for the same behaviour” seem to be influenced by the level of fame of the accused. Armie Hammer is kind of a non-entity — are there actual Hammerstans out there? — and it’s easy enough to make an example of someone when you don’t have much to lose, vs., for example,…
Saturday Night Live?
All fair points. Given that he is the more established actor and legitimately a celebrity, I suspect he will be able to mount a comeback much more easily than someone like Hammer. I wasn’t trying to make a sweeping comment about cancel culture other than to suggest that there are different rules for different people.
I’m not sure what you mean? I wasn’t commenting on the lawsuit but the idea that he seems to be taking the beginning steps of the Shia LeBeouf redemption tour. Before the allegations of abuse, I had no strong feelings about him either way, so I’m curious to see how this plays out.
Different time, different generation. People probably knew about Hoffman but didn’t even realize it was a real problem.
That could be true too — I haven’t been following his career that closely, but it seemed to me like that’s how he’s marketed: the leading man with character actor looks. He *was* pretty funny as Spicoli in the Fast Times at Ridgemont High table read — I’ll give him that.
This was kind of the point I was making on a previous Armie Hammer post. He’s not really a star, but an actor who has had some success. Marilyn Manson is a has-been. LaBeouf is his generation’s Dustin Hoffman so he gets to write his own rules.
Perfect summary.
Is Montessori usually full of anti-vaxxers? I didn’t realize. That’s disappointing.
It’s especially frightening to me when someone as educated as Wolf becomes radicalized. Yes, I’ve met some pretty stupid smart people, but at the very least she should understand how reliable sources work.
It’s the only book I’ve read of hers (at least in full) too. I don’t think we’re missing much, but I’m still glad I read it when I did.
Honestly, she’s been pretty bad for a while, but I hadn’t realized she’d gone straight up conspiracy theorist. If her social media is any indication, the critical skills required to do heavy academic research simply aren’t there.
Have you tried Global? They usually have full epsiodes on their website you can skip through.
“There’s more risk to a healthy 58 year old from social isolation, and lack of Vit D from being inside, than from COVID. But more importantly: in a free society, my risk is respectfully none of your business.”
Working out with a mask on is my idea of hell. I know some people can’t give up the outdoors, but if there was ever a time to switch to an exercise bike...
Yes! That is such a perfect description of him.
Me too! Also, fuck John Mayer.
