Honestly, I don’t know why anyone would have used one of these large thirsty wagons as a family hauler once the better minivans like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Previn and Nissan Quest appeared.

Interesting. I also did not realize that Pontiac was responsible for all manufacturing of the Iron Duke engines until they were phased out. GM did not anticipate the stronger sales of that engine over the V6, which produced a shortage of engines.
Same thing killed the Pinto and the Vega, as well as many others. A rush to get them into production and fix the problems afterwards, which they never seemed to get around to doing before it was too late.
I traded in a Pontiac for a new Honda Civic in 1982, and have not owned an American brand car since.
Clearly, nearly forty years after its debut in 1979, history has not been kind to the Citation and its Buick and Oldsmobile brethren, but had you take a little time to research like your fellow writer did for his excellent article on the Toyota Tercel, this model was one of its best selling models as well as a…
If you want to live the dream, find a way to make it a reality. (Preferably in a legal way, of course.)
Don’t get mad, get even.
Very nice job David. Who let an adult into the Jalopnik writing playpen?
If you are arguing that Toyota should design every sports car to the standard and pedigree of an LFA, fine, be prepared to spend $400,000 instead of $40,000.
Oh for Gods sake never mind...
The target power to weight ratio for the new Supra is almost exactly the same as a Cayman, only with more torque. And I think this is exactly the target for Toyota with this car. Yes, context does matter.
Did you ever stop to think that by partnering even more resources can be allocated to design and production?
Lost in all of this is that we are finally getting a replacement for the aging BMW Z4 as well.
No.
The quoted power number for the twin turbo version is 340 hp, with close to the same amount of torque. This car will be fast enough, if the target weight of 3,200 lbs is accurate.
So does the Porsche Cayman. I don’t hear anyone bitching about it being underpowered.
I owned a Supra in the past, and I currently have a BRZ. I want to see if it is significantly better than that car.
You did mention you were looking at a C7 Corvette and a Cayman. Hardly slow cars in my book.
How in the world do you know what it feels like? If you think it is that easy to develop a potent, affordable sports car these days, you are solely mistaken..
They are not remotely going after nostalgia with this car. They are trying to make it the very best sports car they can while still being somewhat affordable.
