It is, however, a multiplayer game. So the gear they get in the co-op mission makes them all but unbeatable in the DZ. The game is so terribly unbalanced that a ~15-20 gear score difference means that a player can take on a party of 2-3 without much trouble.

The problem with crunch in games is that it’s become the rule, not the exception. I crunched for over a year in my first industry job and it was pretty brutal, my wife stayed with me for some reason, but thankfully I didn’t have kids yet.

Definitely don’t buy gear early on. You’ll get drops frequently enough to get you out of single digit levels. I ended up heading into the DZ around level 10 and started getting some great upgrades. Granted there’s a chance the NPCs will kill you if you’re solo, and other players can be asshats.

I think this is the takeaway for me. The rule is there for the safety of the QB, maybe it’s a “veteran move” to play to the whistle, but the refs should be on the lookout for this going forward. I don’t think any player on the field sees a QB go down and thinks, “Well, I should keep playing just in case.”
