Also, regarding Klobuchar’s “The ultimate compliment in Iowa is: ‘You’re in my top three,’” I’m pretty sure that’s the ultimate insult in Iowa.

he asked Sharpton if it was okay to eat fried chicken with his hands.

I’m a limitarian. Just as there’s a minimum wage, there should be a maximum wage.

Democrats only win the presidency when they are exciting to the population. Sometimes without being terribly exciting, they can eke out a win (in the popular vote) and still lose. But Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama energized the people (during their first runs).

That’s a once-in-a-lifetime pun.

Obama wasn’t the presumed nominee in Dec. 2007. He didn’t generate that wave of enthusiasm you speak of until rather late in the election cycle. Also Trump wasn’t electable until he was.

I had to log in just to star this comment (and logging into Kinja these days is like a 10 minute ordeal of clearing cookies and temporarily changing settings), but your comment was worth it. Consider the head of the nail hit dead on.

Again, you’re confusing the “healthcare industry” with the healthcare insurance industry. The best estimate of the number of those people I could find was 660,000. (I happily admit that there is wild disagreement about that figure, so...) But no matter the number, these people are not in the business of providing

But... you can’t have medicare for all and “leave private insurance alone”.

The reason domestic lamb is less gamy than NZ lamb it that while NZ lamb gets nothing but grass throughout its life, domestic lambs are given grain in the months or weeks leading up to slaughter. I also prefer grain-finished lamb, though the grass-fed lamb is probably (marginally) healthier.

we will no longer republish the tweets the president somehow continues to be allowed to tweet.

Yup. Same exact thing just happened to me two months ago. Now my bike is a write off and I’m still battling the insurance company for a fair valuation. Don’t be nice.

Well sure, but see “Japan” for Nihon, Italy for Italia, not to mention Florence, Venice, Genoa, Naples, Rome, and ...ahem... Leghorn for Firenze, Venezia, Genova, Napoli, Roma, and Livorno.

I appreciate your guidance on this. But I think “hard e” doesn’t clarify it for most English speakers (because I don’t think many people describe a sound that way).

Pence and Mother probably have enough dirt on Trump to be able to do whatever the hell they want.

Yes. He wrote that in a book that would definitely not have been published if he were not the son of a rich white guy (who happens to be the president).

The president will never be able to Prius from our beloved Renaults. We’d all buy Cadillacs, but they’re too expensive, and we’re too Jeep.

I fully appreciate how crappy the system is and that the challenges are enormous. (I will take a moment to point out that Canada does have a senate as well, though I’ll readily admit that it doesn’t have the power that the US Senate does.)

It’s instructive to look at the history of universal health care in Canada. It only went national in the late 1960's, and it was bitterly opposed by all the same people who bitterly oppose it in the US today.
