One thing I really liked about the “Birthright” graphic novel is that it posited -three- identities instead of the usual two: heroic Superman, mild-mannered reporter Clark, and the confident, assertive Smallville Clark.

I picked up on that too. I guess they’re just part of “being Clark,” i.e., “When I’m plain old Clark, I wear my glasses.” It’s a bit odd when you think about it because in recent incarnations of Superman, Clark is the real guy and Superman is the disguise but in reality both are disguises.

Beyond a scandal, if it comes out that Jordan is “a super” it won’t take much to start wondering how he got that way and start looking at the rest of the family. “He’s just a meta” might fly for some people but it won’t satisfy everyone. He doesn’t just have his own secret to keep, he also has to keep his dad’s secret.

You and Dave aren’t wrong, but winning covers up a lot of controversies, as our sports fan friends can probably tell you.

Kara winning the Pulitzer on Supergirl was so dumb. I am assuming that after the crisis where Lex was seen as a “good guy” wiped that out?

I love that Clark keeps his glasses on for date night.

This is how I interpreted it. He was oblivious and then dismissive when she tried to have a conversation about it.

I wonder if Lois has a younger sister Lucy post-Crisis. I would like Jenna Dewan to return to that  role though they seem to be recasting almost all of the Supergirl people on this show, somewhat unnecessarily in my view

I don’t think that’s what she was saying, I think she was upset because her husband didn’t notice or care that she was uncomfortable. Her husband is the one who assumed that meant she wanted him to jump in and defend her but most likely she just wanted him to empathize with her instead of immediately defending Edge.

Lana’s husband can be an ass, but like him I was confused by her reaction after dinner. You can’t expect your partner to swoop in and save you from every mildly uncomfortable conversation.

Yes, Gen. Lane has probably known Clark for 15+ years but how long has he known Clark is Superman? I'd think that would enter into his thinking.

I see this criticism, but Morgan Edge here totally blows away the Maxwell Lord character in WW 1984. And frankly what Supergirl did with him. He was just a cartoon on Supergirl. I agree with the grade, just for different reasons. This episode was just not that exciting, but I get they were trying to do the whole

My usual random thoughts:

Man did I ever have Smallville flashbacks seeing X-Kryptonite come into play.  Freak of the week here we come!

I also liked Clark’s rebuffing of the General’s “nice of you to show up” snide remarks and redirecting attention to the immediate problem.

I am just not into another “evil billionaire wants to take over the world and nobody sees it but the main characters” trope. I think this show could have been better if they just focused on the family and the military’s long held fear that superman could turn evil. There is a tension there. The more time he spends

Now I feel stupid. I didn’t think about that. Thanks. Now I know why he didn’t feign an accent and order the guards to set him free.

Jessica Jones was Marvel. Superman is DC. Different characters.

I know it’s what’s making him happy, but the scenes of Jordan playing football made me think of how it’s going to be such a scandal, when they have to forfeit their wins because they are letting a supe play and how it’s unfair to the kids on the other team.

I’m not sure this if this has been mentioned before, but 7734 means hell, yes? I learned this from upside-down calculator jokes in elementary school. Anyway, I’m thinking that the Hell Contingency  is actually what caused Captain Luthor’s Superman to eventually turn evil and that we only have a superficial reading of
