If all these shows were to exist on the same Earth, The CW could, for example, reposition the friendship between Ruby Rose’s Batwoman and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl as the franchise’s new core relationship, replacing Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen and Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen after Arrow leaves the air in 2020.
But the multiverse allows for different heroes to tackle their own problems. If BL and Supergirl are in the same universe, why hasn’t she or Superman done anything about the abduction and murder of the Greenlight children or the entire city of Freeland being under martial law?
“Because of the reality-bending nature of that event, it was totally unclear until Crisis On Infinite Earths started when and where Batwoman took place—Gotham City, obviously, but the Gotham City of Arrow’s Earth?”
During the aftershow they mentioned the intent going forward was to have Kara and Kate’s relationship be the Arrowverse’s new version of the Ollie and Barry dynamic which makes it sound like those two will at least end up sharing an Earth if not everyone.
I’ve thought for a while that a Legends season (or even half-season) should have a twist that the bad guy causing all of the issues they’re seeing in the timeline is Barry.
I’d argue that the original Crisis on Infinite Earths only helped the DC universe a little bit and then hindered it a lot. Sure, there were a lot of alternate Earths and a lot of stuff to remember and combining the JSA and JLA into one world was a good idea (even if it did result in the Hawkman Problem), but…
My question is what was going on with all of the Earth 38 people that were saved. They’re just sitting on some ships? They mentioned sending all of them to Earth 1 (before it went away,) was the plan to just drop a billion people onto an already very heavily populated planet?
I somehow just “got” the twist of Ollie saving Kara and Barry from dying in Crisis when they were the two major characters that stayed dead for quite some time in the original Crisis.
I’m hoping Supergirl is still on a separate world at the end of Crisis, if only because most of the stories it tells, with aliens as a sizable minority a la mutants in X-Men, wouldn’t make sense if she’s on Earth-1, unless they bring all the aliens over too, which would have too large an impact to be ignored by the…
Mike Carey/Peter Gross/company’s Lucifer run is so completely definitive that I can’t bring myself to touch any other iteration, but that was a fun scene. And oh man, did I start cackling with glee the moment I realized where they’re going with Ollie, that’s absolutely perfect.
CW/DC, you can have this one for free so long as you do it:
I had no idea Lucifer was going to be a part of this so it was a delightfully fun surprise. That was great.
I loved everything about this episode. It may be my all-time favourite episode since the first Kara/Barry crossover. I was in tears for half the damn episode (and I don’t even have my period as an excuse!). Jefferson repeating his mantra while channeling the energy... a mantra he taught to so many students to help…
How many times must Barry watch a man who looks just like his father die, anyway? Poor John Wesley Shipp, here’s hoping he gets a long, natural life as Jay Garrick, at least, once this whole “every universe is dead” thing gets sorted out. A bit of a shame there was no Wally to mourn this Barry...unless you count,…
I squealed like a little girl when Ellis appeared, even though I was pretty sure it was coming when I saw Lucy’s penthouse and the “Earth-666" label.
I appreciate that Black Lightning is from a world where superheroes (specifically Superman) are still fiction so meeting 2 of them gives him a tiny silver lining to the enormous cloud that is his whole world being annihilated.
If the Lucifer rumor turned out to be true there’s probably some merit to the other ones.
I thought it was a really nice touch that Frost switched with Caitlin for what they thought was the moment they were saying goodbye to their Barry.
That’s true, but also way more nuanced than most Hollywood producers are going to get.
