I'm thinking his mother isn't dead at all.

Thank you for getting Neil LaBute's name right.

I didn't say vibrato is easy—at least, that's not what I meant to say. (And if you're going to play that card, I will say that I, TOO, am a classically trained musician.)

Too much vibrato. And vibrato is an easy and convenient mask for problems.

Saying "her sin is that she is inarticulate," is not something you can substantiate. There is no evidence that it was merely a slip of the tongue and not representative of a larger problematic paradigm.

So then it's better that she not say something at all since her sin is that she is inarticulate. And when an ally does speak up and makes a mistake, the individual should be raked over the coals.

I understand how people are taking issue with it. However, the point remains that her intent was good. Furthermore, much of what I've seen of people taking issue with what she said is projection, as well as parsing of words far deeper than she intended.

Fuck off. I'm brown.

As I've said: So what if someone means well but doesn't quite articulate her idea as well as she might when the entire world is watching? Gotta find outrage somewhere.

It's unlikely that she even considered that there are queer women and women of color (as well as those that are both!) that exist.

I think what you're missing is how people at this blog seem to look for reasons to piss themselves off. So what if someone means well but doesn't quite articulate her idea as well as she might when the entire world is watching? I mean, fuck cis/white/hetero/"feminist" women like that for not getting it perfect, right?

I don't have access to YouTube right now. I don't know what it's called, either. I just happened to see it when it was posted to another messageboard as evidence of her "talent".

You are aware of The Sound of Music, right? I mean, why wouldn't the performance be schmaltzy?

I've been curious, since she's in the news a lot lately and performed at the White House.

Yeah, because God forbid we give proper credit to someone who killed it without pointing out that what YOU value isn't getting the attention YOU think it should. smh

LOL

Xtina could probably do it. J Hudson.

I'm with you on this. It was a good performance but she's not Julie in her prime :)

Same people who would get mad that Ted Leo did "Since U Been Gone", I guess. (Did anyone like that even exist?)

Dad-aged here who saw Pavement back in the day and then again during the reunion.
