I think giving your kid an awful haircut once or twice and memorializing that in pictures to show them down the road is an inalienable right.

Back when flying was flying! I think Boeing’s might be a little more hands on but certainly with the Airbus’s i’d be surprised if it’s not hands off the stick in this scenario. It’s a part of ETOPS I think as well that the pilots aren’t unduly taxed by an engine out situation, IE the plane as a whole has to remain

No it’s not easy lol. The biggest things he did besides execute a smooth touchdown was make calls like starting the APU immediately so he’d have hydraulics immediately which was against procedure - obviously a good thing in retrospect but it was his call, not the books. I believe they actually amended the checklists

I’m guessing you fly something smaller than an airliner as handling of an engine out/assymetric thrust is a big benefit of modern AP or at least partial AP modes.

...but is it though?

This is just a way for people with a lot of income but not a lot of dry cash sitting around to own one of these for a year or two and then sell their stake to someone else.

Helical is better in many ways but the gears also generate a huge amount of axial force on the transmission as they’re trying to push themselves apart. Thus you need a pretty serious transmission case to handle the forces - and so it follows that transmissions using straight cut gears can be quite a bit lighter.

So not that steep. Looks like half of downtown SF or residential neighborhoods in Portland’s Westside.

What’s funny is you think $250mm is a lot of money to design even a small supersonic aircraft.

What’s the difference?

That Crosstrek would cost $35k and nobody would buy any. It would just be a bigger slower heavier WRX. The same people that say they want cars like this either are small in number or can’t or won’t pay for them.

“As it is, I string ratchet straps between the “oh crap” handles and hoist the skis up to the ceiling.”

The guy isn’t a race driver that much is obvious but he at least starts flogging the engine properly after the first lap, if you didn’t make it that far.

Police can search unlocked compartments, and not locked compartments. This has implications for people carrying loaded weapons when they shouldn’t be as much as it does drugs.

What major metropolitan center do you think is going to allow them to launch a rocket within 50 miles?

You’re old school. It made it more expensive, maybe slightly heavier... and not handle like shit. That last one is important in 2018.

Putin also claims to have tested a small nuclear cruise missile with effectively unlimited loiter time. So there’s that...

In my experience everyone working at United is generally less intelligent than your average puppy.

You never ever let the marketing team go full marketing team. I bet the engineers at that trade show had to have their eyeballs surgically re-aligned they rolled so far back into their skull.

I think they had to basically let the thing chew itself up, it was losing cladding out the exhaust which is why it was so dirty. In theory, a really well built nuclear thermal ramjet won’t be all that dirty.... just some short lived isotopes whisping around. A BWR is using the steam that came off the core directly in
