It always bugged me how the producers of the HP movies, knowing they had a surefire moneymaker on their hands, seemed determined to do just the minimum amount possible to ensure they could make the next movie. Sets, costumes, effects, etc. were all consistently a cut or two below what you would expect for a tentpole

Yeah, the poo monster is really the best evidence for "Kevin Smith doesn't have the right touch for this sort of film." Religious satire is really hard, not because you might offend someone, but because it is so easy to offend people most films (and books, etc.) just go for the low-hanging fruit. That, and the basic

Well, he did correct your misuse of the possessive (it is Adams', not Adam's, since his last name was not Adam)

Well, he didn't break into movies until his 40s, which limited the sorts of roles he could play during his film career. He was born 3 years after DeNiro. Since 1988, DeNiro, who works constantly, has had around 68 film credits (not counting cameos, tv episodes, etc.) , of which maybe 10 or so are really memorable.

It doesn't help that the actress is in her 30's and it just seems crazy that anyone with a normal sex drive & plenty of offers would willingly abstain for that long. "No sex before marriage" adherents tend to get married early or use the "loophole"

Honestly, she should have bet nothing. There was no way for her to catch them; she couldn't even catch them if she doubled up & one of the two bet $1 hoping their opponent would miss. So her best move was to sit on her $6K and pray for a double miss.

Yeah, well Canada is part of North America, right? So Gosling is "American" as well as Canadian. BOOM.

I prefer to believe that, rather than cancer, he was killed by falling from the top floor of Nakatomi Plaza.

Only way to make this argument coherent is if they censored any and all romantic looks, touches & gestures, regardless of sexuality.

Oh man, I have got to find these movies somewhere. These both look irresistible.

FYI, I had this in my queue forever & forgot about it. Watched it Saturday night because I saw this comment. It was time well spent.

Gangs of New York isn't even slightly anti-Confederacy; it is anti-draft & anti-war, but certainly doesn't take on the evils of slavery or anything.

That is a really, really stupid & petty thing to get upset about.

I have nothing intelligent to add here. Just a sad day.

Maybe you guys have the same uncle?

I'm not sure which I love more: that he got it right, or that you looked it up.

When I first saw it when it was released, I remember thinking that he could spend the rest of his career adapting Elmore Leonard, and it would be a good career indeed.

That said, their UI is a work of genius compared to Amazon Prime. I have trouble finding Amazon's own shows on that one.

The critic is wrong because she makes up her mind about the quality of the work without ever seeing it. That is wrong, it is deeply messed up, and it happens all the time in the world of art criticism.

Man, I got the exact opposite from it. To me, it was primarily about criticizing the performers for being so obsessed with themselves that they couldn't tell good work from bad, or recognize when they were messing up other people's lives for the sake of their art. Keaton & Norton are not heroic or downtrodden figures
