I think Burger bribed the jury by way of Pete. Burger's goal is to become DA, and it's been clear throughout the series that he believes his best shot for doing this is by making Barnes look bad... I mean, that's part of why he coached Mason on the bar exam, right? And Perry wouldn't bribe a jury, I think.

I guess the jury is still out on that one.

Which parts of the Trek franchise do you like?

Riker is up for anything.  I just had a really long conversation about ghost rape on the Umbrella Academy page, I am very strict about being pro-consent.  Riker consents to everything, he’s like a walking version of the green disc you put on the table at a brazilian churrascaria.

Hot Take, based on an incomplete but sincere relationship to Star Trek:

That blob monster that ate Tasha Yar?”

Jesus fucking Christ, The AV Club - it didn’t eat her - it SMACKED her.

Where are your standards these days, The AV Club? WHERE ARE YOUR STANDARDS?

I’ve been side-eyeing this series for a while; I might have to pick up the trades at some point.  Spurrier’s pretty good with out-there fantasy/superhero stories and the art is pretty damn impressive.  Do I need to have a deep understanding of the Sandman lore and mythos to get into it?  I have a decent amount of

Yeah. There was a point his work was so popular in the average cube farm I worked at two separate companies that had full “no Dilbert” policies - which at the time was the most “Dilbert” policy ever.

It’s not that inexplicable, really. They found out that they weren’t getting another season, so they made a deal for four more episodes, but a truncated final season would’ve left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, so they split it into two groups of nine episodes. Sucks, but it was kind of all they could do. I think it

this scene also manages the impressive feat of giving C3PO a genuinely moving moment in the spotlight. it also highlights the problem with this movie, when that moving moment is completely undone 15 minutes later, just like every moving moment in this movie.

Ah, yes, back when this movie about space wizards and their laser swords was treated with the mature gravitas it deserves.

Also practical effects/puppetry trump shoddy late ‘90s CGI every time.

What they don’t tell you is that Babu Frik is middle-aged, twice divorced, has a gambling addiction, and smokes four packs of deathsticks a day. But damn, I love that adorable little ball of misplaced rage. Oh, you didn’t know about his anger issues either?

By “before you stopped having cable” do you mean you haven’t watch a good chunk of the series? Because the humans do start to develop policies based on future invasions as the show goes on and we get a better mayor.

The usual definition of a martyr is someone who dies as a consequence of refusing to renounce their beliefs.

Best of fortune with Return of the Obra Dinn. I concur 100%. It really is a ton of sleuthin’ fun. And as a lot of others have said since it’s release, it’s so amazing how it captures the “feel” of those old Macintosh era computer games without ACTUALLY representing them 100% to the point that they’d turn people off.

Rick is also a narcissist control freak. Which means he thinks 99% of everything that comes out of his mouth doesn’t actually apply to him specifically.

The gender is performative, but dem tittays is for real
