We’ve talked about it so often in the comments that I’m surprised it took Jez staff this long to make a post about it.

That these are stable, “protected” environments specifically argues against the development of more complex life, and in particular sapient life, as there would be no selectionary pressures to encourage its development. It would basically be a world of bacteria, single-celled life, with perhaps some colonial organisms.
