There is a strong relationship between big L Libertarians and the alt-right. actual Objectivists are quite rare. Your typical Libertarian has authoritarian tendencies (except when it comes to paying taxes).

i.e. Libertarians are largely frauds. (to date, I’ve met precisely one that believed in it in full and wasn’t just a closet authoritarian who hated paying taxes).

Agree. Charles is making a whole bunch of assumptions about people who are working from home. He’s probably also making a lot of assumptions about how people are behaving in public, as well, and that’s coloring his perceptions heavily. Maybe things are different where he is in Ohio, or maybe he’s just a presumptuous…

This film has had such a profound impact on popular culture. Probably my favorite is the music of Aaron John Gregory (a great artist and musician, probably best known for his band Giant Squid). His new band Squalus’s first album - The Great Fish - is all about Jaws. Great stuff. Also, this Giant Squid track:

Exactly. That’s what all the sequels and other shark (and many monster) movies fail at. They focus on the creature, whereas Jaws is about people facing something phenomenal (see also: Close Encounters of the Third Kind) beyond reckoning.

Yep. That’s the real horror of this administration. I went through some shit in my life where I was like “well, it can’t get any worse than this, can it?”, and of course it did. Things can always get worse. And that’s a really rough realization to come up against when everything has gone to shit.
