Fair except there are some strong female characters in Tolkien, just at the periphery and still basically waifus. And he’s clear that all the evil brown/black people are corrupted by darkness and it’s not in their nature necessarily. Still sucks

Hot damn. Really though, in Tolkien a lot of traditional heroic or badass types tend to fail only to have the overlooked softies and weirdos pick up the slack. I’m not sure I would have articulated it either until reading this, but I think that’s been a huge part of the appeal for me.
