Yes - my last user name was very male-sounding and no one ever gave me any shit, compared to the almost daily beat-ups I got when I had a feminine user name. It was pretty remarkable.

Look at it this way: people name their girls traditionally male names all the time, to the point where many formerly male names have become “girl” names. But the reverse is almost never true. No one ever names their little boy Priscilla or Stephanie.
